Default To Everyone: "Beating a Dead Horse" problem

Too many of you are fond of letting other participants know the subject is old to you. This is somewhat of an exclusive nature that discourages others from participating fully, especially newcomers. This forum isn't just about you; if you find it stale, move on. There's plenty of other readers, especially newer ones that don't. Some of you feel some are too lazy to use the search feature. I don't think it works that well. I have been using this forum for several years now and find plenty of subjects that are a little old so I'll just click on to the next thread if it interests me. What does help are concise titles to help readers navigate more effectively. We need to be more tolerant of others participating, especially newcomers. Some participants may bring a fresh perspective on well-worn subject and some of us wouldn't want to discourage that.

Well said. I don't mind answering a question more than once if it helps someone out. And you are right, the search function sometimes can be difficult to get to work.

I agree - however..... the search engine and the CF archive DO WORK!!! Plus the vast majority of repeat questions have been discussed and answered on page 2 or 3 - doesn't anyone ever look beyond Page 1???

I post on several dozen PHP forums and I always search FIRST - especially a Google search with "site:forums.corvetteforum.com" qualifier than search the site - and THEN ask the question.

I understand what your point is - however the same old questions ad nauseum is eventually quite tiresome especially when the answers are usually on page 2 or 3.

VERY well said....
I get tired of all the junior moderators with the instantaneous comments about dupes or the action....Grow up a little people !

Also, take into consideration that not everybody spends 16 hours a day reading these threads, so they may have missed a topic or two

I have to disagree - this is an open forum, and everyone who participates is welcome to his or her opinion, as long as it's in compliance with Forum guidelines. If someone is of the opinion that the topic raised is a repeat - whether by a new member or one that's been here since the inception - they are entitled to express it. If that individual chooses to express that opinion in this manner------> that's their choice.

Every time I see a post from someone who says it's their first post, I see pages of folks taking the time to say welcome and giving encouraging words. Those who don't feel that way typically don't participate in the welcome. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say - "GET OUT OF HERE, YOU'RE NOT WELCOME!"

If you choose to participate in a public forum like this one, you have to develop a thick skin and remember the annonimity of the Internet. People will say and do things that they would never have the guts to say or do face to face when they're hiding in safety behind the screen name and computer. Those people are also entitled to their opinion, and if you don't like what they say on a regular basis you can block their posts - I know I've done it. The post is still there, you just don't have to read it.

But when enough people recognize those and ignore them, they tend to disappear.

All I can say - is don't take everything you read so personally - you'll enjoy the wit and the knowledge here a lot more.

Right on target - from previous experience many of those types of posts are from people attempting to get additional 'stars' for their avatar. This is sad, but true.

Others just cannot wait for another Forum member to show the slightest sign of weakness or incorrectness (if there is such a word) in posting a subject matter- allowing them to jump in with both feet in an attempt to show their 'macho'. If they were face to face, they would never have the gumpson to do this, but they feel that since it is the Internet they are safe.

And if you think this is bad (on the C5 Forum) go to the C6 Forum - with the number of new owners it is like jumping into a tank with a large number of sharks

I know we get alot of new people asking the same questions that have been asked before, but the new people don't know that.I myself enjoy seeing the same questions asked again because i am older and my memory is not always what it should be and i forget alot of things and when people bring them up again in a question it helps me out i go hey now i remember that.

I totally agree. If it's a worn out subject to you, don't click on it.
Newbies shouldn't have to have a "internet tough skin", they're new. IMO, posting is just plain rude in most cases.
Personally, if it's a subject that I'm interested in I'll click on it everytime I see a new thread pop up on it, no matter how many times it's been covered before.

is it okay that I use the and smilies before I use these
or

Also I will give you some warning don't venture over to the OFF TOPIC section because if you can't take the "Beating a Dead Horse" in the C5 general section which is very tame compared to the OT section, you will never last in OT.

I couldn't agree more!!! I hate to see anyone dumped on especially newbies. Humor is one thing but being obnoxious is a completely different animal. Like I always say half of what gets said here would never get said if we were all face to face. It's funny how obnoxious people can get when they're hiding behind a computer screen. But then again unfortunately having a little character isn't a requirement for forum membership. As for using the search function, sometimes it works very well and other times it doesn't, but I am thankful for it at any rate. But doing a search will, if it's successful, get you information that is not always up to date and even if it is what are you supposed to do for further discusion, especially over a new angle or concern. Nobody is forcing anyone to read a post if they don't want to, matter of fact not only are you free to not read a post you are just as free to not post a reply either. With all that said if something bothers you try and take it with a grain of salt and ignore it. Humor is one of my favorite things about the forum as long as it is done with some class, if you get off on being obnoxious then head to OT where it is always welcome and part of the fun there.

P.S. That's my sermon for the month, man I have to talk to Stuart and see about getting a collar.

Well said!! A new perspective on an old subject is always welcome. And you never know it all. If you think you do it's time you went back to school.

One thing that bothers me more is the fact that people get info here but rarely post back the results or post pics of what they found. That to me is the most valuable info that I wish other's would share.
