Default Key Fob Problems. Need A Little Help!

Ok guys and gals I have a 2000 C5 and I have been having problems with my key fob holding memory. I am thinking of buying a new one but the fobs for a 2000 are about $100. Has any one tried or does any one know if a 2001 fob will work? They are about $40. Thought I would ask all of you. Thanks for your help. God-Speed.

I too have a 2000 have the same problem with my FOBs holding memory. I have 2 Y2K FOBs, both of them can't keep the memory for any reasonable amount of time.

I have 1 01+ FOB, but it does not work with mine (cannot get it to match or sync with the car). I'm not 100% sure that they won't work...hopefully others will chime in on this

I think their is some limited discussion about this in the Sticky thread at the top of the general page. I think the fobs are different for the 2001+ models.

Here's something that might help. The battery contacts in the fob can lose contact when the fob is bumped or dropped. To fix this, bend the contacts so they will press harder on the battery. Be careful not to bend too much. This worked for me - no problems in the last 4 yrs.

You might also want to make sure the battery contacts are clean. Sometimes a build up of crud occurs and the contacts need to be cleaned. This happen to me. Once I cleaned the contacts---all was fine.

The 2000 fobs are for 2000 only. 97-99 have the passive feature, the 2001 and newer use the new slim fob.

Where were you last week when I tried this and guess what broke. That is why I am using the back-up.

I bought a couple used on on ebay for my 99 Suburban. I think I paid about $30 for two. I couldn't synch them. The dealer did it for nothing.
