I'm an auto parts driver and today I saw stuff I never have seen before!
I took an auxillary route to avoid a highway accident(truck jack knifed) and I saw 18 wheelers spinning the tires on a road with a "SLIGHT" hill. RWD vans going sideways, one 90's model camaro almost slid in to another car.
I don't care what they put on a rwd car, traction control, snow tires....it's simply not a good idea to take one out in snowy conditions no matter how careful you are.
I had the misfortune to get stuck in a snowstorm while driving with stock tires. The car could not accelerate uphill. The tires had no grip. The car fishtailed all over the place. Going downhill, it felt like it would slide out from under me. I would never drive this car in the snow with stock tires.

, got caught in the biggest "snowstorm" we have had and it wasn't fun. It was on Christmas eve and I was at the in-laws. Who'd of thought snow in South Texas on Chrismas eve? Needless to say it was a long drive home (only a 3-4 mile drive) and on very level ground she felt very unstable. Never got out of first and just idled home. That was in about 6-8 inches and no way would I do it again. (for the record, we finished with about 14"!!!)
Well my wife came home early. So I took her car, glad I did. I think this was the worst weather ive ever driven in. ALL ICE, This poor guy trying to get up a hill by me with a C4, didnt happen. Stangs, camaros, lincoln LS and 3 police cars all stuck on the same hill. The worst.
Mike when are you stopping by?
Today in Sacramento about 80 degrees and clear. I really don't know how you people can put up with it although I guess we have our problems too. ie lousy gas and high cost of living. Still, I'm driving topless and loving it.

Hey Mike, good for you, you've learned something since your last post when you all but cursed GM for not personally advising you not to drive your C5 in icy/snow conditions. As you were advised by many forum members at the time proper tires, not RF's, can make all the difference. Very few consider the C5 a winter snow driver.
we have a small hill by our townhouse...neighboor up the hill left his black vette out front of our building last nite as he couldn't make it up hill. it was bad out in connecticut last nite. but he had a very hard time getting going on level ground this morning in the 4" that accumulated last nite around his car.
me? i leave mine in garage on battery tender and drive my demo in bad weather...good luck.

I can only speak for a MN6 with Runcraps or Khumo Estxas, and having driven in the snow in the Pa mountains for 40+ years, I say DON'T TRY IT! C5s are not snow cars and there are far too many idiots on the road who are either afraid to drive in the snow, or don't know how. I agree with DIP51, only I have a 4wd rat-powered 5 spd crew cab dually to blast past all the RWD cars that are struggling or stuck! I know all the (asian sympathizing)car mags are screaming for the manufacturers to go back to RWD for their DD type cars, but around here RWD is a recipe for disaster in the winter. We just got a Imp SS for my wife (replacing a GranPrix GTP) which goes great in the snow and is a hoot to drive the rest of the time. I drive my C5 year round, but not if there is the slightest chance of any snow or ice at all. The car will (barely) make it, but why take a chance if you have a choice?
