Default AC Outside temp stuck....

The outside temp on my AC is stuck on 69 degrees. Do I need a new one, or could a wire be loose?

I would suspect the thermometer itself - I am not sure where it is on the C5s, but is usually somewhere in the front grill area.

Sometimes the connector itself gets corroded over time. You can find the ambient temp sensor under the front nose on the passenger side just in front of the radiator shroud. You can take a few of the screws holding the fascia to the shroud and possibly the closeout panel to the fascia to gain access to the connector to clean it out. Hopefully, that's all it is.

what about just cold booting the system...er, I mean disconnecting the battery cable for an hour then re-attaching?

sometimes it works wonders with my 99 Ranger!

Thanks! I'm thinking this may be the problem, while it is not eroded, it may be unplugged, I though I'd get no reading if it was but maybe it is just stuck at the temp when it was disconnected. I recently installed a cam and I bet it is unplugged....

Mine was stuck at 69 too.

Just go buy a new outside temp sensor - I think it cost me under $10 - which is pretty amazing considering this is a Corvette part.

Now mine works fine.

Cool!
At least I know if its not the wire the part is cheap!

Usually, if it is unplugged, it will read -40 degrees F. Same sensor is used on dozens of other GM cars.

It's not such a bad number to be stuck in.

Good luck with the fix

I was waiting for someone to comment on that!

well it was not the wire I thought it was, I just plugged in my hood lamp, not the thermometer

Where is the wire in relation to that one?

KUDOS TO PATHCES' PICTURE!!!

Upon further review I saw an unattached wire, came in and looked at his picture and wallah....it is 37 degrees in my garage! (according to the thermometer in my car!) I will miss 69 in my car, but it will be back....

Thanks Patches!
