This morning after driving to work, I discovered my passenger door is not locking when I hit the FOB or try to use lock/unlock button in the car. I can hear the motor/solenoid making noise, but nothing is happening. The weird thing is that it will unlock the door, I just can't lock it.
My car is out of warranty so I'm hoping its something I may be able to fix.
I've got the same condition. Planning on pulling the door panel this weekend and see what's up. I hope it's just a loose connection.
By the way we discovered the problem when someone tried to open the passenger door after i locked with the key fob. The alarm startled the hell out us.....didn't expect it!

Probably a bad door control module - I've had it happen on a couple of our cars.
The actuators dont cost that much- around $35 (before shipping) thru GM parts direct. My drivers door does this sometimes, and I plan to get around to changing the actuator.
The actuators rarely go bad... it is usually the control module, which is the most common cause of this condition... the second most likely condition is a pinched wire in the accordion duct in the "A' pillar door jam... pull back the duct and inspect for a pinch..a simple input output test using a 12V test lamp can determine input and output from the control module..
the door control module it around 235 dollars.. it is made in Mexico and is a big problem,,,
We had to replace the driver door control module in my son's 99 just last month. Was doing the same as your's. We got a used one from http://www.geneskarshop.com/ for $35 and it solved the problem.
Well, I investigated this weekend and indeed it does appear to be the door control module. What's worse is that GM updated the part in '03 so now I have to replace the left one in addition to the right one.
