I probably won't do this because it can't be good for the car / tires, but how do you do a burnout? Spinning tires, standing still and with smoke, etc... I see it in a lot of videos. Can this be done with a stock 03' - A4 Coupe? Teach the newby a new trick. Thanks.

Switch Active handling into Competition Mode (hold down the AH button for about 10 seconds), put your A4 in 1st gear, ride the brakes and step on the gas.
Stock 2.73:1 gears and unmodded engine (no intake/cat back) and it may not start spinning as easily as if you had a Blackwing/cat back.
Well it's not bad for the car as a whole but of course it's going to cause some excessive wear on the tires. This is a very normal thing for drag racing though as you do this to clean/heat the tires.
In an A4 it's quite simple. Just get in a safe area (such as an empty parking lot) where there's nothing close and no gravel. Just hold down your brake enough to apply pressure to your front tires to prevent you from moving, but to let your rear tires spin (this will require some practice to figure out exactly how much pressure you need to apply) and in 1st gear start giving it gas as though you were doing a NORMAL pull out from a stop light.
If it's totally bogged down not moving you're hitting the brake to hard, if it starts spinning but you're moving forward to fast you're not hitting the brake enough. Give it enough gas to keep the rev's up but try to keep off the rev limiter. Then let off the gas. Once your revs are down then you can let off the brake. Once you get comfortable with that you can start revving higher, letting go off the brake and giving it MORE throttle, etc. Start by taking it easy because a stock A4 has plenty of power to spin you around completely.
EDIT: and follow the above post about disabling traction control but keeping on active handling! I haven't driven my car in about 5 months so I forgot about that. haha
Well, if you're driving a car like mine, just step on the gas anything more than a quarter throttle. Oh, and it doesn't matter how fast you're already going, or what gear you're in

I actually laughed when I first read this post.....You`re kidding right!?!?
But then I thought to myself....What better car to Burn out in for the first time?!......
My first burnout was in Pops `54 Chevy...First time borrowing it too!! If you can get that gasoline guzzling, oil burning, tank to leave some rubber...you can do it in anything!
Have fun and beware of the Monster you will turn into....I see Mod`s in your future!

Yes, I realize that compared to most on this forum, I am sort of ...well, "innocent" when it comes to automotive technology and driving techniques like burnouts. I have never even changed my own oil, but I would like to learn. Give me a year or two...I might be tearing down engines, transmissions and laying down rubber in the parking garage at work.
I've learned a lot here already. Most recently, the crappy gas I use occasionally sludges up the engine and injectors. My Vette got its first taste of Techron today. What's this whole swapping gears thing? 2.73 or blah blah blah. I suppose that question is really for another post. Thanks Corvette forum.
To briefly answer your rear "gear" question, the higher the number, the faster your car will accelerate. As your number gets higher it takes less time to get from point A to point B unless your car is standing still burning out..
The higher the number generally means a lower top speed and lower gas mileage.
Gears with higher numbers are said to "pull harder" out of the hole.
Your gears (2.73) would be considered highway gears.
Now for the irony....The higher the number represents a lower gear ratio and the lower the number represents a higher ratio.
Say What???
I didn't touch on the effect the ratio has on RPMs. I'll let someone else explain that.
Did I get all of that right class?

on a stock 03 .. nope .. can't be done. better return it to whoever you bought the car from.
but seriously .. no offense, if you have to ask .. you should be doing a burnout to begin with.
btw. here are some reference sites that are very basic in terms of automotive:
Switch Active handling into Competition Mode (hold down the AH button for about 10 seconds), put your A4 in 1st gear, ride the brakes and step on the gas.
Stock 2.73:1 gears and unmodded engine (no intake/cat back) and it may not start spinning as easily as if you had a Blackwing/cat back.
Let the smoke begin!
EG
01 A4 - 2.73:1 gears
Thats the key I tried a couple of times before I learned of the "COMPETITION MODE" now anytime anywhere, let them smoke

Make sure you are in Comp mode as described above- beyond that if you are a manual tranny take it up to about 3krpm and drop the clutch- if auto do as described above by holding the brake and giving it gas- either way DISABLE TRACTION CONTROL IN SOME FASHION.

I hear ya!! My dyno looked a lot like yours with ProCharger and a FastChips tune. My question is, how do you drive this thing and NOT do a burnout (in every gear!)??
