It's me again from the Verte v. Coupe forum. Well the first Vert went too high in price, now I found a local Vert. Just wondering if this price is way too much.
At a dealer there is a 1999 triple black vert. corsa exhaust, sport seats, z51 suspension, NO Hud, automatic, with 21,000 miles. It is impossible to describe how clean this car is, it really looks brand new on the outside and except for someone sitting in the driver's seat the interior is spotless. Alot of people throw around the word "showroom" when describing condition, but this car is really "showroom" condition. There is not one flaw in the paint, not one chip etc. and it shines like new. Anyway the price is $28,500 which is steep I think. Any perspective on if this is a good price. I will daily drive it so the miles will accumulate (about 8,000 per year). If it isn't highway robbery I might bite the bullet and get it, either that or a local 2000 coupe same stats, same condition for $26,000.
Any input greatly appreciated.

I'm no pro here, but I don't think the vert price is too far out of line. If a dealer has it, I suspect they have a little room to play with the price. A few weeks ago I bought an 02 vert with the same number of miles for $34,500. I was told I got a good deal. I think yours is a pretty good deal also.
let's see what others say.

I think the fact that it is in showroom condition means a lot. You may find one cheaper, but, how much will it take to get it in the condition of the showroom one ????
Too high.
The first day you drive it, you might get a nick or scratch on it.....
Nothing stays show room for long.....you sure the thing wasn't repainted or something?
Mine was the same when I bought it, now it's got little chips and scratches, nothing noticable except to me. But I wouldnt' pay more for no chips and scratchs.

another vote for too high - I'd be thinking 25 or 26 for a 99 in showroom condition with those miles, but that's me...
I'm gonna guess the dealer has $3 - $4K added to the "real" price (if not more) . Make an offer you feel comfortable with. Although, get it inspected at your favorite vette shop first. I was talking to a restoration shop owner the other day. They had a 99 Vette there that looked pretty rough for the miles on it. He told me that when they were done it would look like new. The dealership would pay them around $1000 and would mark the car up another $5-$8K because of the work they do there. The shop is one of the best detailing I have ever seen. Don't be fooled by looks or cleanliness of the car. Beauty is only skin deep.
There is a paperback book out there titled "Don't Get Taken Every Time" by Remar Sutton.
Once I read that book it opened my eyes to what you can really get cars for. It may be out of print, but you can find it at a library. It is an easy read and full of good info.

ExploreJoshVette I think I am leaning toward your thinking. I would be paranoid trying to keep it in showroom condition and the miles would cut its value very quickly as they added up until it was just another 1999 Vert with average miles. May have to settle for a coupe.

TXMADMAN, you're in WiskeyTall Falls??? I grew up around there.....you know Mike Maxwell white C4, or Dwight with the Red 01 Vert? or Alan Martin?? Originally Posted by TexasMadMan

Except that I bring a check for 26,100 and I bet he bites. Clean usually means well cared for which is worth a lot.Quote:

If you got a coupe, you won't be settling, trust me, check out my pics under my sig. I love it, have the top off all the time......
Mine was showroom too, but I'd have to argue anything being showroom after 21,000 miles.....3,000 miles yes, but not 21,000. Mine was mint when I bought it too, I probably wash it 1-2x's a week and wax once a month.......it's tough to keep it looking showroom. The nicks and scratchs are going to happen.
I got my black 02 coupe, 3.15's G92 pretty much loaded with aftermarket chrome rims from Classic Chevy in Grapevine, with 22,000 and GM Cert. 39/39,000 warrantee for $30,000, it was adv. for $34,000 and on sale for $32,000 but I swiped it for $30G.
And that was a year ago before the new one was out.

According to the Kelly Book, the car in excellent condition should be priced at $27,675 from a dealer and #24,275 from a private party.

Yeah, car looks great Josh, nice deal on that car too. How did your negotiations go. I should try my father's method, he bought his Z06 from Friendly Chevy in Dallas, after being rejected by Frank Parra and Steakly. His tactic, find the youngest looking salesman, write a check, hand it to the guy with a list of options, tell him he has 5 minutes to accept, then walk if they won't.

Don't give them 29,000, I got them down 4G off of what the sticker said, go for 27,000, remember, over the phone means nothing...
They'll tell you anything over the phone to get you to come in....
I wouldn't pay more then 27,000 at the most.

I won't get in the coupe/vert debate. If you are spending $25,000 + on a car get exactly what you want. They made 10s of thousands of C5s.
NADA is 29,500..actually....that is what dealers typically go by among other factors. But anything is open for negociation, its the American Way!...........

I actually had a good experience with Classic Chevy
, I went in trying to buy a 02 electron blue one which was way over priced and had sit on there lot for 3 months already. (long story short) We wheeled and dealed on the blue one, they wouldn't come down, they kept bugging me about the black one (the only one I didn't want) I let them know that too. Eventually they bugged me enough, got the keys when I wasn't paying attention and took it off the "showroom" floor, literally, and got me into it......a prayer later, I'm signing the paperwork with shaky hands, this was my first car that I bought......by the way, I was 25, 26 now, when I bought it. But they treated me like an adult not like a kid like all the other dealers. I had a sales manager actually laugh at me at a different dealer.....
moron, I took the black one back to them after I bought it to show them what they missed....
Good luck to you.
