Default Corvette Ad Campaign

Hi Corvette Lovers,

I'm a senior at UConn and am currently working on an ad campaign for Corvette for my advertising class. I wanted to hear firsthand from people who owned/liked corvettes to see how we should go about designing this campaign. If you could take a minute or two to answer a few questions I have, I'd really appreciate it.

Strengths/weaknesses?
Your perception/attitude toward Corvette?
Who are the main buyers?
Why do you love/have a corvette?
Who do you think some main competitors are?
Lastly, can you tell me a little bit about yourself so I can see what type of people are buying corvettes?

Thanks so much!

O.K here you go.......

The main strength to me is the exotic look of the car. I've yet to see a car that compares to the stlye. Next, it has to be the feel on the road. The steering, acceleration and braking are all exceptional!!

The main and possibly only weakness is the road noise from the lack of insulation. I've taken care of that problem by insulating the wheel wells and I'm about to insulate the cockpit and hatch to make it even quieter.

I think for the money, it's the best sports car available.

The average age of Corvette buyers (per numerous surveys) is 54.

It took me 51 years to buy my first Corvette and I LOVE it and know I will always have at least one in my garage.

I guess the main competitor to the Corvette is the Dodge Viper, but having spoken to many Viper owners who have or had Corvettes in the past, the rides don't compare. The Corvette is much more comfortable and smooth. The Viper is a street race car. More hp but much less of a daily driver.

I'm a 51 year old father of two daughters, the youngest is 22 and a senior in college and the oldest is 25, a third grade teacher and is engaged to be married in November. Since I'm finished paying for college, I figured it was time to spend some money on my wife and myself and a two passenger Corvette fit the bill.

I own a mortgage company and teach a spinning class at the gym four days a week.

Good luck on your project, I hope this was helpful.

Hi Rachel...

The strength of the Corvette is the power, the way it handles and visual attraction. Another wonderful element that attracted me to the Vette would have to be all of the modifications that are available for the later generations of Vettes.

The weakness is the road noise and stereo system.

It would appear that the main buyers are males over 45... probably the average would be about 50.

I own my Vette because it's just about the best muscle/style you can buy for the money. It's also a part of Americana auto history. There is a certain mystique that exists with the Corvette that very few cars of today can claim to have.

Main competitors... Certainly the Vipers and any number of foreign sportscars.

I'm a 49 year old single male, working in the entertainment industry in So Cal. I also ride a Harley and own a 57 T-Bird. I have wanted a Vette for years and finally got my 2003 last month!

Best of luck on your project!

Let me give my perception of the appeal and mystique of the Corvette. Buying my Corvette was the cullmination of a 45 year old drean that started as a freshman watching Route 66 on the dorm tv set back at Northeastern Jr. College. Fast forward 5 years....I am teaching for a salary of $4400 per year.....no Vette. 10 years later two children, need a family car, 10 years later...college expense....no money. Now retired, I figured at age 62, it was about time, after all I am still 18 years old in car years. What other product could have that kind of appeal? I would expect that many of the "senior owners" have a similar story. Good luck on the project.

1. Strengths: Best bang for the buck...driving excitement, precision, power, and style, for a very good price.
Weakness: Image...a fix for "mid-life crisis".
2. Perception: My perception; An American dream on wheels. Others' perception; powerful, sleek, muscle car.
3. Main buyers: Mostly Males...middle age and up, for the most part. That's when most can afford to buy such a car without sacrificing kids, etc.
4. Why do I love the corvette: Fun to drive, great handling, great acceleration, owning an American legacy, great for meeting neat people who also love vettes, value, dream come true...And it is made in the USA!
5. Competitors: Dozens of wannabes from all corners of the world. More specifically; Vipers, some of the japanese sports cars, expensive European sports cars, and to a lessor extent, the Mustang.
6. I am a retired teacher, age 55, happily married male, a car nut since 1965 when I first sat in a corvette. Bought the car just for myself, a reward for survivng teaching junior high for 30 years...always wanted one. It is not a status machine, just a source of immense fun and joy.

Mike
