yea those Honda's rip I agree with your point too...you can always improve/get faster...I guess for some reason I have always thought of NOS more these days is for Imports (rice ) Although when I was building my 69Firebird a few years ago I saw quite a few old muscle cars running it like back in the day.

I guess I made the comment about putting NOS on anything and making it fast because a good friend of mine who is a very good wrench, put a 100 shot on his blazer(think it was a 92 or 94) and that thing ripped...it was funny watching him smoke all four tires

To me, it's all about the $$$'s. I did headers, intake, 4.10's.....and that was a great start. Now I want more. But for a decent HC setup it's $5K plus.....and that's for about ~400 rwhp. Not to mention I'd never pass smog here in Cali with a noticeable lope.

You can (and I did) buy an NOS 5177 kit with all the safety goodies for $1000. Running it at a 100 shot is totally safe too. And it's a whole heck of a lot easier to install than H/C. So I consider it a do-it yourself project, as opposed to the H/C which I would consider a shop only project. Sure, it's smog illegal too....but it's a hell of a lot easier to de-mod that for a smog check than it is for a cam.

So where does that get you? It gets you to the same place, about ~400rwhp, just $4K cheaper. Sure, it's "not there all the time"......but for me, I don't need it to be. Running around at 325 rwhp + MN6 + 4.10's + 3200 lbs is plenty for most situations I'll run into. And if it's not.....there's the button. And if that's not good enough I give a smile and a thumbs up and say "more power to you buddy - you win!".

I've never been around Nitrous so someone please school me on this: How long does a bottle last? I am referring to total time that the NOS lasts not in number of passes at the strip. I presume there is more than one bottle size so I guess I am referring to the average or most popular size.
Also Wet vs Dry: I've heard wet is better (more power better for motor), though dry is much easy to install.
I guess I am thinking of about a 100 shot, so how do these systems compare at that level.

Well.....I'm a nitrous newbie, but I researched the hell out it before I bought my kit so I think my answer will be accurate.

It's hard to say how long a bottle will last without putting it in "at the strip" terms. The rule of thumb is if you're running a 100-125 shot it'll take about a pound of nitrous per 1/4 mile run. So to put that into general use terms........roughly a pound per 10 seconds of wide open throttle. And from all I've read it's really not recommended to use it for more than 15 continuous seconds anyway.

Bottles come in various sizes, but most C5 couple guys go with a 10 pound bottle because it fits perfectly in the big compartment. When you mount it there it is nicely hidden out of site and still allows you to store your top when you take it off. So.....doing the math......that's roughly about 1 1/2 minutes of use. Which doesn't sound like much.....but that does equal about 10 hard full 1/4 mile runs......which isn't bad really.

Now if you're a Z06 or FRC guy, or a coupe guy who doen't care about hiding the bottle or storing the top ......you can use a bigger bottle.....15 pound bottles are common, and that's obviously 50% more juice storage capacity. Personally, I'm just gonna buy a second 10lb bottle to have laying around - having one in reserve makes it less of a crisis when you need to get the bottle filled .

Oh....and here's a great write up to answer more of your questions.....

I don't really understand why people think nitrous is for imports. Nitrous doesn't do crap on imports. They are lucky if they can run a 75 shot without blowing their engine. Those 4 cylinders don't work well with nitrous at all. They just get it for the name. "I have nawwsss". Nitrous is for V8's. V8's respond really really well to nitrous. Yeah, you can put it on just about anything, but its not the same. Ride in a vette on nitrous, then ride in a blazer on nitrous. There is a lot more info to be had in the forced induction/nitrous section, you should ask your questions there. There are a lot more vettes on the spray than you think.

I do.....can you say "FAST AND FURIOUS"......

Every ricer can go from 0 to warp speed (you know, when you're going so fast that everything goes into slow motion and gets blurry) with the push of a button.....

v8's respond better because they have larger displacements then the 4-bangers. N2o does the same thing regardless of what type of combustion engine it is in. we are just lucky because we have more room to pump the juice into. A 75 shot into 4 cylinders on a 120 hp engine is a vast improvement, so i have to dissagree, it does do 'crap on imports'

Sure its not the same, but it's still a boost in power.
