I know we all bottom out sometimes, going in and out of a driveway ect... but lately with my 98 convertible I have been scraping my center air dam more the I use to. I know its only a plastic part easiley replaceable, but I still cringe when I hear that scrape. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this has gotten worse lately? Thanks for any advice you have
Maybe your springs are settling or your shocks are worn? I trimmed my airdam down 1" and installed a set of Frame Savers. I have to try to get it to scrape now (and no cooling or airflow problems as a result of the trimmed airdam).

Lately have you had a passenger in the car?
SOme places my car doesn't scrap when I am alone but if I have a buddy in the car it will scrap at times but never when the g/f is in the car since i don't want to be in the doghouse
I scrape ALL the time. There's one road (San Mateo south around Zuni...for those in ABQ too) I refuse to take to work because the tire ruts soo deep that the center of the road has become high enough to cause me to scrape at any speed! I installed A&A protection, so I don't worry about most scrapes like driveways or speed bumps, but road ruts are still a potential killer.
GM made the C6 spoiler out of a plastic that's supposed to scrape more quietly. I wonder if they'll start making the C5 spoilers out of the same material...
Back when I first got my vette I did a test to see if that spoiler lip really made a difference at... higher end speeds. I did two runs with it on... then two runs with it off. No difference in downforce or handle. Ever since it's been off I've never once scrapped the nose or heard that terrible noise.
Trust me... it's worse! Just be glad you're not taking that driveway in a C4 (like my neighbor).

I think the only way to make plastic scrape more quietly on concrete is to make it softer...but then it wears faster. C6s do have a shorter front-end overhang though, so that probably helps.
I know the scraping sound is very annoying, but it really isn't hurting anything. My driveway is at about a 45 degree angle, and even doing a five point turn causes scraping. My next door neighbor always knows when I'm leaving, because he hears the scraping of the airdam and my PRT exhaust! As long as you're not bottoming out the body, I wouldn't worry about it. It's what we C5 guys have to live with!
