The vette has two "ZONES" in the system... Drivers...leftside... and passenger side..."right"...
My guess is that the controller for the passenger side has failed. It is out of range... Don't worry, it's for the side you never sit on so who cares???
Zooom
I got two 'current' 99-HVAC codes that translate to:
Right Actuator Feedback Open
Right Actuator Out of Range
Anyone know what they mean, or what I can check?
I can take it to a service dept. under warranty if its a complex repair and outside my abilities.
Thanks,
..rickko..
Rick, The actuators are the part on the HVAC module that tell the unit what position the dash controls are set at, and then open the correct flap/ door inside the unit. For example: When you turn the switch on your dash to defrost, the actuator opens the door to let air flow through the proper duct to the windshield opening. Or if you set the switch to "floor" an actuator would then close the defrost baffle and open the floor baffle allowing air to flow to the floor duct opening. Also, if you need heat, the air is directed through the heater core, or if you need AC, the air is directed through the evaporator core. There are several actuators on each module depending on model & options. "Duel Zone" and rear seat heat for trucks would have more actuators. My guess is that one of the actuator is stuck in the open position. You should put your fan on high, then see if the air flows out the correct opening that corresponds with the switch position. Then change the position of the switch and see if the air flow stops, and goes to the correct opening. If one door/baffle is stuck open, most or all of your heating and cooling air will come through this opening. Unfortunately the HVAC module is put into the dash as a sub assembly, then the dash/ "cockpit" as GM calls it, is put into the vehicle. This usually means that the dash needs to be partially dissasembled to service the HVAC module. I am not familiar with theses codes, but I do know the HVAC units that GM uses. I built them for various models from '99 - '03. Hope this helps! Good luck.

Great response!
I checked all the configurations (ie. defrost, footwell, dash, and their combinations.) It seems all operate properly when they are selected and turn off when they should.
Seems I might have to take it in for a service check since I don't have the Service manual to follow the diagnostic path for those codes.
If anyone has an '04 manual and could send me a digital photo of the relevant page or pages I'd really appreciate it.
I took the car into City Chevrolet in San Diego today. My first time ever at their service dept.
The service rep. was VERY congenial. Before the car was driven back into the service bays he examined the entire surface of the car for scratches so I wouldn't bitch later about a scratch that may have already been on the car. I liked that he respected the car in that way.
The problem causing the codes turned out to be a simple fix, an electrical connector for the right side actuator wasn't plugged in all the way.
Thank god they didn't have to disassemble the dash to fix the problem.
When the car was done the service writer called me and scheduled a limo, yes a stretch (30') Linclon with full bar, mood lighting, etc. in the back, to pick me up.
My C5 was returned to me in immaculate condition.
So, 1st experience at City Chevrolet was excellent. I hope it continues that way in the future.
