I have a couple of scratches in the clear coat of my LeMans Blue vert. Don't know how they got there, but they bother me. What's the best way to remove them? If w/ compound, please give me a name or grit?
thanks,

might not even need compound although that is a possible choice and would work the best obviously. But they make stuff that you wipe on and off its called quick detail.. I believe that should work fine.. it has helped get surface scratches out that are caused by pretty much anything. You can find it at pep boys, or even possibly CVS
How deep are the scratches 04SeaFive? If you run your fingernails across the scratch, will your nails catch in the scratch? Do you own any kind of Buffing Machine or Polisher? By the way, I own a national aircraft detailing company and I'm sure I can help.

Dont mess with a buffing machine unless you know what your doing, can make matters worse with swirl marks!!!

i went to the meguires detail clinic and they showed us the over the counter scratch-x. he worked the product into the scratch with 3 applications (must be done by hand with some pressure) and the scratch was gone. try that first, it's probably the safest thing to try first.

thanks to everyone for your replys and suggestions. I bought some Maguires Scratch X today and it did the trick.
Start with Meguairs ScratchX if that dies not work an dthey are deep go to #80 glaze hen if that does not work use Meguairs fine cut cleaner.
I would try scratchX first and if yyu have an orbital it will take care of it.
You might want to consider an orbital buffer. www.meguiars.com can give you more detail and alos be able to buy what you need

I use a product called Adam's Polishes Scratch Out - works well. Can be bought through the manufacturer or West Coast Corvettes. 3M makes a good scratch remover too.
Today was only the second day in a month of ownership that I could wash the car. Sadly I discovered some clearcoat scratches also along with the swirls the dealer gifted me with. Scratch X did the trick for me too and made me feel a lot better. After claying and getting my first coat of Z5 on the swirls are a little less annoying also. Life is good at least until tomorrow when the rain and snow are predicted to return.
