Default Insulation - did I get the right stuff?

Getting ready to do the cabin heat & noise reduction thing. I went to Lowe's looking for "Frost King," but all I found was "Reflectix" brand aluminum foil insulation. It's two sheets of foil with an air layer between; looks like bubble wrap. (I haven't tried to pop any of the cells.) It's flexible, looks like it will work. Can anyone tell me if this will work?
I searched and searched and could not find details for the Frost King insulation. I found Bill Matera's notes but didn't see the brand name.

If there is a better description, can someone tell me the location?
Thanks!

Reflectix is the higher-heat resistant, non-self-adhesive stuff I used for the central tunnel and the rear center tub and storage areas to reject some of the exhaust system heat. The Frost King stuff has one self adhesive side and is good for the rest of the areas. That is also what has the better noise reduction quality. The Reflectix may not give you the sound reduction you're looking for.

I used Reflectix for the center console/cabin area and Frost King in the rear fender wells and was really pleased with the outcome.

I also put Dynamat and Brown Bead throughout the interior before installing the Reflectix, but that was more for sound deadening for the subs I have in the back storage area.

Good luck with the install, I'm sure you'll be happy with the finished product

Dandlb, You won't find Frost King at Lowes where you might think. It's not with the regular insulation, but over in the heating and ductwork area. Good luck.

Be careful when you buy the Frost king. I bought some old stock (probably last years leftovers) and found the adhesive to be gone.
I noticed the newer Frost King has different packaging. Go for the fresh stock.

Good luck.

Hi dandlb,

I finished last weekend...here is the Lowes sku #28928, Frost King Duct Insulation, 12"X1/8"X25'. I needed 5 rolls @$6.32 each to do the interior and the two rear wheel tubs. I had to check a few Lowes to find it...some only had the 2" wide version. Home Depot doesn't carry it. It is not in the home insulation section, but in plumbing section under "pipe wrap/insulation". It is a lot of work...but very worth the effort!

Good luck!

Frost King is a fairly dense foam rubber product, with adhesive on the rubber, and the other side covered with a heavy foil (be careful ... it cuts). It's intended use is to insulate metal ductwork from vibration/sound. I think it's about 1/8" thick.

I coudn't find any in stock at either Home Depot or Lowe's ... ordered it from Home Depot. They shipped it to my house with no shipping charge.

Wow, the Lowes in San Diego sells FK for $15.95 per roll! I've done 2 C5's now and could have saved a bunch of $$$. Wonder why the price discrepency?

Same here at the 15.95 guess we just live in the wrong area.

12"X1/8"X25'.

Look at the size difference. I think what you paid $15 for is 24" wide vs. the 12" wide that is posted as $6.

DK,

If you have more to do, let me know and I would be willing to buy the FK here and ship to you! The stuff is very light weight and should travel well. But, did you get the 2 foot wide roll for $15.95? $6.32 was for the one foot wide roll.

BTW I love your Clint Eastwood movie line reference...never cared for bean-counters either

Yes, I did get the 2 ft wide rolls. They don't even sell a 1 ft wide roll at the Lowes here. That's why I didn't even know a narrower roll existed. Thanks a lot for the offer, that was nice of you.

Yes, as a former military man that's my favorite motto. It's so true. There are ppl who get things done.....then there are ppl who just flap around all their life w/ excuses.
