thanks for the welcome!! i read through the sticky at the top of the forum. lots of good info in there. i definitely excited about looking for a C5. (not so excited about trying to sell the WS6, the way the market is right now, i'm gonna take a beating) i'm going to look for somthing with 40k to 60k miles on it. maybe a 1999 or 2000, unless i find a good deal on a later model. i do have one more question: FRC = ??. what does it stand for?? again, thanks for the welcome.

Edit: Nevermind, FRC = Fixed Roof Corvette (Hardtop)

Hello and welcome. My $.02 drive as many as you can. It really boils down to what you want and can afford. Make a list of must haves. The newest low mileage car you can find that has all the entries on your list should be right for you. Best of luck. Your gona love it.

FRC = Fixed Roof Coupe (aka "Hardtop"). They look similar to the Z06 (but w/o the kick a$$ engine). Unlike the coupe there is no targa top that can be removed (which is why I went coupe - that and I needed some decent trunk space). They are however, stiffer and lighter, and come only as a 6-speed. I think they all came with the Z51 suspension as may have been indicated earlier. I believe they were produced in 1999 and 2000 (someone feel free to correct me on this if i am wrong). When I went looking (and I bought with criteria similar to yours), they were the cheapest option. I took a little beating on my Jeep as a trade in since I basically owed what it was worth, but you can't wipe the smile off my face now! Take a bunch out as everyone has suggested. Good luck, feel free to ask more questions (as I wish I had seen the forum before buying) and keep us all posted on your progress.

Welcome FRC= fixed roof coupe,(non removable top) the Z06 has this body style, and there were 2 years I think before the Z06 came out that you could get this body style, It is rare, kind of a stripped down version,,only came in 6 speed, few options and it was lighter than the coupe and vert.

They are all great,,I would look into a 2001 or newer if you can afford it..more things became standard in 2001 that were only options before, like HUD and 2nd generation Active Handeling...also I think in 01 the intake manifold was the same in the C5 as in the Z06...and a few other small goodies. I am SURE someone will correct me if am wrong.
ALso I have an 01 with 26,700 and no oil consumption problems. IF you get an Automatic,,I would recommend the G92 option, which is the performance axle for the Auto.. 315 gear...if not you'll end up with the 273 gear which is poop JMO If you go with a 6speed they all come standard with a 342.

oh and if you get a coupe,,make sure you do not join the FRC club..FRC also means Flying Roof Club for those unfortunate owners who have forgotten to latch their roof down

Good luck

I never understood that one - how do you forget to latch it down???? I honestly think there maybe more to worry about if you are forgetting that, and I myself can be a bit ditsy at times.

Now watch....the next cruise it will happen to me.....
