Need Millenium Yellow Paint Advice!
The color match sucks on the hood! It is several shades darker. The painter is re-doing it, but I was wonder if anyone has had a good color match. Is the paint brand sensitive?
I am trying to not blend it into the panels, just in case I put the stock hood back.
Getting ready for Spring!

Make sure the painter is using the right GM paint as well. The code is 79U.
Hope this helps a little.

I'd like to see it.

Can you believe I am just now getting the canards on! Winter settled in and I just keep putting it off.
They installed them without the screws first, but after some thought, we just went ahead and used the screws. The look good. I almost felt guilty painting over Electron Blue (almost!)
Wish I could take pics, its been at the body shop for two weeks!!
After the post here and my subsequent calls, we are meeting with the Dupont rep and are going to shoot some test panel tomorrow!
We will see!

One of the tricks to Millenium Yellow and Mag Red is the tinted clear coat.
As for Indy, I'll be there. Flying in on Saturday morning and leaving Monday. Staying in the Castleton Area of Indy, (Northeast corner of 465). At the Marriott on Allisonville Rd.

The factory applied it starting with a tint base coat (white in color), a translucent color coat (yellow), and finally a clear coat. A 3-stage system. The thickness of the yellow coat applied will vary the color, which is why some note a discrepency even when comparing factory original paint jobs. The thicker the yellow was laid on, the darker it appears. This also makes it tough to match.
The color code for MY is WA423G (79U is just the RPO #, and no help to the painter).
The problem with matching it is the aftermarket paint systems attempt to duplicate it in a 2-stage process. As you found out, it doesn't work too well.
However, a "trick" to matching MY, is to add a very small amount of yellow color to the clear, to basically make it a tinted clear coat. It's not the way the factory painted it, but it does seem to work for matching the original finish, and that's all that matters.

Good luck with matching the paint, let us know how it goes.
If anyone can refer me to their painter that was successful in match the paint, I would like to have the name and number and maybe I could figure what our place is doing wrong!
The painter I am using does the hoods in supercharger applications for a local tuner and I know they are good, but we seem to missing something.
They are trying to shot in two stages over a sealer. I though that might be the problem, but the tests were on grey primer and came out the same School Bus Yellow.
