I'm getting the "Mod" itch that needs scratching
Hey fellow Vetters. I am a proud owner of an 03 C5. Picked it up brand new in May of 03 (10 days after 29th b-day) After reading interesting threads and viewing unbelievable videos, I'm considering "Modding" the $H_t out of my vette, but need your expert opinion. Some packages I've looked at. Mallet, Lingenfelter, and Calloway. Cant really decide on which one to choose.
Currently running all stock. Would very much like to keep the "Mod" inconspicuous if possible. Ya know, element of surprise!
If you can help point me in the right direction, I can step up to the cocky A-holes driving vipers and let them know to pay their respects to the Almighty American Icon.
Just checked the Lingenfelter web site. They have a 750hp kit for LS1/LS6. Its a twin turbo 427. Sounds like the ticket for you. It looks like it fits under the stock hood. http://www.lingenfelter.com/pack_cor_c5_725.htm

WHOLLY SH_T!!!!!! Um......What are my chances of getting killed?
$44,000.00 WOW.... I was wondering what $10,000.00 could get me
Well I have to say that if you're like the rest of us modaholics it never ends...sometimes it slows down, sometimes you can't write checks fast enough, but it never ends.
My suggestion, one that I wish I would have done from the beginning is go for a forged shortblock to begin a solid foundation....one of the supporting vendors has some great prices...do a search I forget who it is. Search for "Mother of all shortblock sales" or something like that. I don't think the special still applies but their non special pricing is great.
If you go big enough cubic inches with a resleeved aluminum block you'll hit that power level even with stock heads.....you can go with an iron block but it adds about 90 pounds to the front end...when you're ready for heads and cam look at AFR or what I think is the all out best heads and cam from Cartek. (When they can get a Naturally aspirated stock cubic inch C5 to run 10.59 in the quarter mile with a drag wheel setup, 4.10 gears, longtube headers and their Head and cam that's impressive)
Longtubes are good for 30-40 hp, freee flowing catback is a must but the rest (Air intake, ported TBody) is nickel and dime power but it does all work together in the end...if you have the right foundation.
Gears will provide actually less numbers on paper (losses due to friction) but make a noticeably faster car and should definitely be on your short list. If you're staying naturally aspirated go with 3.90 or 4.10 ratio. If you're ending up forced induction don't go past 3.73.
The you start talking suspension....then wheels.....then interior...then looks....then the sound system...not to forget that when you get that power from the mods listed above you can't find traction on street tires and end up switching to drag radials (which hook like heck)...and then more than once you start thinking about all the money you spent and start having pangs of regret...
then you get it, start it, take it out knowing that there's little out there that can challenge you and fewer that can take you (but there always will be) and you just smile knowing it was worth every last cent.
One more thought...do your mods in groups and do as many as possible at one time. I collected parts for a year before I truly transformed the car....but it's far, far less labor and each time you do something that requires retuning you're talking $500 a pop.
Best of Luck to you....talk to tuners....lots of people have lots of advice and it's not all good or correct....top tuners I can think of are Cartek, A&A, ECS, Lingenfelter, MTI, Vette Doctors, but there are probably a lot more I don't know about.

Dude, $10k can get you more than 600rwhp easily.
Just talk to Andy at A&A Corvettes and he'll probably hook you up with a Procharger, cam heads, headers and tune that will probably come in at about $10k.
I was at almost 500rwhp with less than $6k invested.

p.s. I do not work for Andy nor am I compensated by him or his business. I've just heard excellent things about his outfit. EG

But once you start getting up there, you then start having
problems getting that new found power to the ground. Now your getting
new mods for the new mods, its a vicious, but oh so fun, circle!
