Have new borla stinger dual tips to put on and cant get the old stock off. Is there anyway to get them off without messing with the rear end? I have the stock pipes unbolted and ready to yank off.
On the rear stabilizer shaft, remove the 2 top stabilizer shaft insulator (bushing) clamp bolts and the 2 bottom clamp nuts, then swing the stabilizer shaft downwards. (Do not loosen the end link nuts, as this is not necessary to swivel the bar downward.) After installing the new mufflers, swivel the stabilizer shaft back in place and reinstall the 2 top clamp bolts and the 2 bottom clamp nuts. Be sure to properly torque the clamp bolts and nuts. Torque for the top clamp bolts is 49 lb. ft. Torque for the bottom clamp nuts is 70 lb. ft. Proper torque for the top clamp bolts is especially important as they are steel bolts threaded into the aluminum cross member. Hope this helps.
if i cut the pipes, will i be able to get the borlas on?
This may depend on how high you have the rear of the car off the ground. My understanding is the rear needs to be a bare minimum of 31 inches off the ground, but I have never tried doing this using jack stands.
I helped my neighbor change out his stock exhausts for some Z06 Ti's last week, but he and I have a Rotary 2 post lift that made this a quick job. We still had to swivel his stabilizer shaft down to get the old exhaust out and the new ones in.
Hopefully someone that has done this using jack stands will chime in soon to answer this question for you. Just be careful using the jack stands with the rear end that high in the air. Good luck.
If no one chimes in soon, send a PM to Forum member Patches. I think he posted a pic here on the Forum a while back that showed he and a friend changing exhausts using jack stands. If I remember correctly, he also had an arrow pointing from the ground showing the minimum distance a certain point on the rear of the car needed to be off the ground. Again, good luck!
thanks alot! I think i am about an inch or 2 short with a 3.5 ton jack This just really sucks, oh well, time to call it a night. THanks alot!
I tried all of the above suggestions for getting the stock exhaust off without cutting, to no avail. And that's with the car on the ramps in my sig. I cut the old system with a reciprocating saw with a steel cutting blade, very easy to do! The Borla's went in with no problem at all. I'm putting the car on my ramps tonight cause I'm leaving home tommorow. I'll measure the clearance and try to post in the morning!
P.S. I'm pretty sure there is 20 inches from the floor to the bottom of the tires.
