B.
Very easy mod. Very ingenious idea! Minimal tools required.

I used the first one as a guide and just yesterday shortened a stock shifter by about 3/4" and gave it a slight tilt back and cant towards the driver. I'll putin the car and post my opinions later this week.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

I started by cutting the stock shifter with a sawzall, I cut it right in the middle of the thick part. Pic
I didn't take any pictures along the way, but I used two 9/16-18 bolts to make the modifications, each 3" long initially. I cut the head off of one so it was still 3", and cut the other so that only about 1.5" of the smooth part in the middle was left. I used a stick welder to attach the bolt pieces to the top of the stock shifter, then ground it down smooth (smooth enough for me anyway), then covered the shiny spots with primer paint to keep it from rusting.
The hardest part of the whole mod was getting the stock shifter down to just the bare center shaft (due to everything being press-fit and glued on to it). Once I did that I ground an angle into the bolts I had already cut so they would line up to the shaft while being at the proper angle that I wanted.
The end result was a shifter that is about 3/4" shorter and physically positioned closer to the driver.

In both of those pics I have the cut off portion of the shifter positioned so you can tell how much shorter it is now.

Before installing it I taped it up to help with noise/vibration reduction, and to give the shift boot something to rest on.
Here'a a pic with a side by side comparison of my mod and a stock shifter.
End result, ME LIKE! The shifts are definitely shorter, and I love the way it is now angled and closer to me. Well worth the $20 I spent on the extra shifter.
