Today I went to Discount tires to look at wheels. I would like to get 18 x 10.5 all the way around, so I can rotate my tires. However, they told me the wheels need to be offset.. 17 F and 18 R or 18 F and 19 R or the car would not drive right. Is this correct?
What wheel tire combo allow the vet to handle the best? I mean, does a smaller wheel up front, larger in the back handle better than the same size wheel all the way around?
I have run race tires that are all the same size all around. Also, this year I'm running all 18x10.5s. No problem with drivability in my case. Just try to keep the fronts slightly smaller in overall diameter (not wheel diameter) than the rears.
Regarding handling, there is more toward tire width than diameter. I know at least one autocrosser who runs 18" in the front and 17" in the back. Most of the time, the wheel/tire combinations that work don't look/feel right. I even run wider tires in the front on the daily driver and it handles better.
Really all I want to do is buy a set of wheels and tires that take up the tire well. I dont really want to lower the car, but I REALLY HATE the gap. So, I'm looking to fill the space. But many people say the car wont run/drive right if the wheels and tires are all the same size.
