I can remember reading other post on this problem and thinking, I hope this don't happen to me...I have 2 spots about the size of a silver dollar. My car is a 2001, 14,ooo miles. Has anyone had any luck getting GM to pay for the repair cost even though the warranty is up? If not how much did the repair cost? I know they went to a different type seal. thanks for the help.

It is a pretty easy job to replace the seals. I'll do up a how to and post it. If you go to the dealer and buy the seals you should get the newer type.

Great write up, cajundude. I have a feeling GM will say no, but hey, it doesn't hurt to ask. Surely by now they know that this is a problem since they came out with revised seals, but they will of course want to save money and let you pay the cost. Good luck.

Ha! That's a joke. I was under my '04 (built 11/03) a couple of days ago and noticed slight weeping on the driver's side. I cleaned it off with degreaser and will watch it closely. I almost traded it (3:42's) and cash to a fellow forum member for 4:10s this past winter. I told him it was mint and didn't leak. Good thing the deal didn't go through or I'd look like a schmuck.-Thanks GM. Did they put the new seals on the last of the '04s? If it's really as easy as that write up (Thanks Cajundude ) I'll probably do it myself and not let a GM disservice center scratch my car while they put another old style seal back in it.
Hey CAJUNDUDE! Thanks for those instructions. I've only been a member of this forum for a couple of months and I can't believe how helpful everyone is!
