i would like to know if anyone has done this, where did you mount receiver, how much trouble was the installation, etc? it seems like it might fit in the ashtray cavity, but ??? - did you have to do any cutting , etc. any photo, anything will help - thanks in advance.
Been there, done that! So have many others here. Most have gone about the same direction. I'll give you a quick run down of mine. I wanted the stock appearence, so I went with the ashtray like you mentioned. Some have just stuck it in there with a bit of two sided tape or velcro, but I went ahead and pulled out the center console, cut out the ash tray and glued it right in with silicon. Then when not in use you can shut the ash tray lid and it looks bone stock. The modulater just tucks up in behind the radio and a/c units real nice with no mounting nessacary. It sits in there pretty tight with no rattling or bouncing around. My friend who every one knows around here as EATRICE went ahead and wired it right into the ignition. We tried to figure out a way to keep the RAP function, but couldn't get that to work, so unfortunately when you shut the car off the XM powers off at the same time. That's no big deal though. As far as the antenna goes. Again, I didn't want to see it so I ran it down the passenger side under the carpet, through the trunk and out the stock antenna grommet and placed it inside the rear facia on the bumper mount. It has a very powerfull magnet and sits right on top of the bumper mount. All you have to do is remove the passenger side tail light and you can reach right in there and lay it on the bumper mount. It does have a few dead spots around town here in Tampa, but only two or three that I can recall. Reception is very good. All in all it took about 2 hours or so. Here are a few pics of the finished product. Enjoy!
