There is no switch to specifically turn it off, if that's what you're wondering. If you have the electrochromatic mirror, or want to retain your map lights, I think you'll have to open the mirror up and disconnect the bulb from the power supply.

What is your problem with the light? Corvettes have had a console shift area light since the C4's. It's not intrusive and lets you see the shifter area without it glaring into your eyes or mess with your night vision.

Simply put a small piece of electrical tape over it.

I must be color-blind. Mine makes my hand red. Night vision protection.

i believe its part of the sensor for the mirror to dim when headlights are behind you-it auto adjusts for glare at nite ...

It's just to help you see the console controls & buttons...Watch the road & you won't ever see it...

The light that bugs me is the little green "I'm ready to auto-dim" dude. From behind, it looks like the power light on a radar detector. The last thing in the world I want showing. But, it came with the Z16.

So I turn it off.
My Valentine has a remote unit so lights don't show. Why antagonize cops.

We've already told you what the light is for. Again, it's not like the light has a glaring glow to it. You wouldn't even know it was there unless you put your hand under it. Unless maybe yours has been modded to be brighter, because mine is not even noticable.

Hmmm, sounds to me like you are the old grumpy one if that light is bothering you so much.

I don't recall anyone complaining this much about it.
It never bothered me.

Instead of the dash board lights being extra bright, this light just shines down on the dash board, what's the big deal?

I guess mine is really bright.. then again.. with 20/10 eyesight in each eye I tend to see things very well. Thus, with all black interior, Limo tint all the way around, and all the panel lights off.. that little yellow light sure looks BRIGHT in the dark!!!

I like the light.. Its a nice touch and it does not distract...
It also helps me read the shifter so I know what gear its in... Hahaha only kidding... Been doing the manual thing for 37 years now.... Holy sh*t I'm gettin old..
