Just had new Mich Zps installed. Installer put the wheel weights to balance on the back side of the wheel rim. Is this ok? They came from GM on the front of the wheels. Thanks
They may have used the stick on weights on the outer side behind the spokes and the hammered on type on the inner wheel edge. Either way works. The stick on type improve the wheel appearance. If they just installed weights on the inboard side of the rim, without any stick on weights toward the outer edge of the rim, I'd question them on that.
It's usually easier to acheive a perfect balance by using the weights on the outside of the wheel, but for aesthetic reasons, most people don't want to see that and request the weights be placed on the inside only (behind the spokes).
Most of the time, a good enough balance can be obtained using the inboard weights only.
If you notice no balance issues (shimmy) on your newly-installed tires, then don't worry about it.
In my past experience, the stick on weights suck, they fall off way to much, just have the tire "static" balanced, I think thats what is it called. I am probally wrong.

No , you're right static balance . Did it on my Silverado when I got new wheels . Who wants to look @ weights on shiny new wheels .

I'm just gonna have the tire shop hammer some on the rim. It sucks they will be seen on my new Z06 chrome wheels... o well, better than vibration and shimy at 140 mph. Safety first.

Had the C6 wheels put on 2 weeks ago and need to take them back because the stick-on weights are scubbing the brake caliper. This kind of pissed me off and have not had the time to take it back. On the way home I heard a scrubbing noise, and pulled over to check and could not find where it was comeing from. About 2 days later when checking the wheel in the garage I noticed a groove about 1/8" from the edge of the weights. The calipers had worn a groove thru the weights about 1/16" deep so of course they do not scrub anymore. My concern is shaved down weight, possible out of balence however there is no vibration and the new Michilin Pilots seem to be perfectly balenced. Should I be concerned that this has happen or forget about it? Has this ever happen to anybody else?

The weights to the back side of the rim are OK, but I'd think to get a good balance you need something towards the front side also. Mine has stick on weights just behind the spokes.
Find a place with a hunter 9700 load force balancer. This machines will tell exactly where tape on weights go. The use of low profile tape on weights and a very clean wheel where they are placed, will result in no weights spinning off.
The primary reason any weight spins off is due to the tech not correctly cleaning the wheel. I have had nothing but tape on weights on my wheels since the day after I got the vehicle, and never lost a weight.
Tires usually require weights on both sides, sometimes, inside weights are all the machine calls for, but the chances of this happening on all four wheels is astronomical.
My tape is still on my wheels... it's now a big sticky pile of brake dust and other road debris. I had the weights installed on new wheels... some of them where gone within the first 100 miles.
The tape stuck to the wheels. Either the weights came off the tape or the tape seporated and a layer came off with the weights.
