i know you've probably answered, but looking for a fresh response. got a nail in my rear tire, about 7500 miles on it. what do you think about patching it? i don't think i'll ever need the z rating, but a new tire is about $400.
ok, thanks, belle tire down the street from the dealer does all the dealer work. i had mine there once right after i got my car because of a nail. that tire was replaced for free because there were less tha 1000 miles on it. they did a good job for me that time. hopefully this time will be the same.

Had mine plugged/patched combo at a Goodyear Dealer with 10,500 miles on the clock (still had 7/32 tread -- which is plenty)...no problems 1K miles later.
I look at it this way...unless you have catastrophic failure (I mean the tire exploding into bits and pieces) and you're doing well over 140MPH...you're going to be in real trouble. The run-flats are designed to go flat and at least hold up really well in comparison to standard tires, even at autobahn speeds.

Don't do what I do, but I have put plugs in a few tires myself. I am confident in my abilities, & have even tracked some of these tires , without any problems. But again, this is not advise that any professionals would give you .

The tire can be repaired as long as the puncture is not in the sidewall or close to the sidewall. I was told the best method is the plug and patch - I've had several repaired this way and they have never given me a problem.
took it to belle tire and found out it was a speed nut with a broken screw through it that wasn't long enough to even put a mark in the tire. so i lucked out, just wasted some time, but i didn't want to pull it out not knowing how long it was.
