Default Magnetic Selective Ride Control ?????

2003 and later Corvettes (not Z06) have the latest version of Magnetic Selective Ride Control (F55) as an option. When I was looking to buy my car I investigated what this option was and found the article below. Although very long, it is very impressive, and convinced me to find a car with F55 on it. Interesting reading ...

F55 is a nice option. However, if it ever goes out, repairs can be expensive.

That's why I went with the Z51. I plan on owning this beast long after the warranty is over and I'd hate to pay that kind of $$$$ for new shocks.

I sure see a lot of this type post, and connot figure out why.

My '99 has this option, as does my '04 (with the Magnetic Ride).

Both, now, work - to such a degree that I can tell the difference between settings.

I say 'now' since I could not fell this on my '99 for years. I happen to have that Vert at the dealership[ when I test drove pre- delievery my '04. After the drive I commented to the sales person that at least with the '04 if I changed the settings there was a 'feel of the pants' change.

He suggested that we put the '99 in the shop and, through the OBDII check if the switch was, or was not, operating.

Sure enough, the test showed that there was no change. Problem, the cable that interfaces to the BCM was not fully plugged in.

Five minutes later - wonder of wonders I couls, and still can, tell the difference between modes.

Can you tell the difference when going over typical road bumps, or can you only tell the difference when cornering or driving hard?

I don't see how this is possible since Magnetic Selective Ride Control wasn't available untill '03?????

Someone correct me if I'm confused...please.

Sorry, but no you don't. MSRC, or F55, only became available in '03. You have F45. If you can't tell the difference between your settings, I'd suggest taking it in to the dealer. I've never driven an F45 equipped Vette, but on my F55, there's a very noticeable difference in the ride when I switch it.

i have that switch that has SPORT TOUR PERF....i don't know f45 f55 but whichever it is...i can't tell the difference...maybe a tiny bit from tour and perf.....under regular driving... i don't want to be taking it to the dealership and having them say theres nothing wrong with it followed with a huge bill for labour :o

Default f55

i like the f55. i take my car to work sometimes. its a 1.5 to 2 hr commute. i go from smooth upstate roads to terrible city streets. when i hit the nyc line i hit the switch to touring to keep the car together. i can definitely fell the difference between the two settings

It is really a cool option.

Don't know if I'd plunk the money down on it if I were buying new, but I'd definitely include it if I were looking used (I don't think it has much effect on resale value).

I keep it on 'Tour' mode while my girlfriend is in the car. When I let her off I switch to 'Sport'. It seems to turn the car into the feel of a 350HP go kart. If you've ever driven a kart you'll know what I mean. Its a great option IMO.

It actually is quite easy to tell. Drive in each mode for a while, don't just switch back and forth and expect to feel a difference.

It's especially impressive if you have a bumpy road and you stay in each mode for at least five minutes -- when you switch you'll notice right away.
