Kumo Owners

I have just got back from Discout Tires and have learned a few informative things including honesty from the salesman (Kinda rare these days)
I was pricing Michelin PS 2's to learn that they are, without a doubt, the most expensive tires on the market currently.
I asked the gentleman why my tires have lost their thread faster than normal. His response was "Your car is sports bred" and the fact that it's RW drive, it will not matter what tire you get, simply becuase it will obviously not last as long as normal cars. I asked him "would it be worth spending such prohibitve $$$$$ on tires that will not last". His response was "if you enjoy wasting money". I asked for a recommendation and he advised me that Kumo's are the way to go. Bottom line is approx: $1100.00 installed and out the door. Savings of a few hundred dollars.
Now the question! Are the Kumo's quiter than the oem Good Years inclusive of comfort?
Your help is greatly appreciated as I am about to drop some serious cash. Dont want to make a mistake!
Thx

if a front wheel drive car had any kind of power at all ....say 200 hp
it could just as easily destroy tires as a 350 hp rwd vette
heres why
on a vette the rear tires do 1 thing push the car forward
the fronts do the stopping and steering
which arguably is an equal and opposite amount of work
the kicker is that it can be done at a slower rate than the rear wheels do there work (sometimes)
which equates into nearly even wear for fronts and backs unless you do burnouts
going back to the FWD car the front tires do the stopping starting and turning
all the forces for everything are done to the front wheels
the reason you dont notice it is because you rotate your tires
now go back and ask the honest salesman what he thinks about that

However, front tires track in turns. Rear tires must necessarily slip. Limited slip or posi or the like helps, but since the tire cannot track, it must rotate around an axis perpendicular to the ground. This will worsen if applying power to the rears during a turn.
you do need to factor that in
but the front tires "BITE" into the ground when they have to turn which i felt even the score
if you look at a tire when the wheel is turned it isnt flat on the ground
1 edge has more pressure applied which would increase the wear on that edge
i think that would even out the corner slippage

you don't want a cheap tire, you want traction at a good price, and that's Kumho.
Give Luke@Tirerack a call.

I am happy with my ASX's as well. True the side walls are not as stiff as the GY D3 that they replaced (came with the car when I purchased) and imagine the side walls on the run flats are even stiffer. The ASX's does flex a bit more on turns. For my type of driving they are fine. I have about 7K miles on them and expect the rears to last at least 30k, fronts do not show much wear at all. 90% of my driving is highway.

Right before I sold my 99 coupe I put on Kuhmo ASX's, they replaced the Goodyear F1 supercars that were on my car. The difference was amazing.
1.the treadwear rating on the new ASX is 400. Thats outstanding for a performance tire.
2. The ride was great.
3. The sound was much quiter and smooth as butter.
I got mine at Discount tire, 660.00 all 4 installed. Now I did get a deal from a friend of a friend but, you should be able to get them for under 800-850 installed.
You will definetly be happy you did. I wish they were on my new 01 vert, the EMT's suck. They ride rough and they are way louder than the Kuhmos.

, Still want to put Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions .
