I've got '02 Coupe. The interior air conditioning control is the "dual zone" unit with lots of buttons. I believe there is also a "standard" unit that simply has 3 *****.
Can I easily replace my dual zone unit with the regular 3 **** unit?

I'm not sure on your question, buy why do you want to?
I'm not sure on your question, buy why do you want to?
Two reasons:
1. I plan on doing the blue LED conversion, and I don't like the green text displayed on the dual zone unit. (this green text cannot be changed to a different color)
2. I like the simplicity of turning a **** to exactly the temp/fan speed i want - rather than the dual zone unit's "automatic" functionality, which is more of a pain in the a$$
Different wiring and connectors. Surprisingly, the vacuum schematics are very similar, so that should not be a problem. There could be some reprogramming of, or replacement of the BCM and/or PCM since they both have inputs or receive inputs from the HVAC system.
I guess it could be done, but how much?
If you want the electrical wiring and vacuum schematics, send me an email with your email and I'll put them into a word document that I can forward to you.

i agree, sometimes the automatic functionality can be a bit more of a headache than the 3 button. but in the long run on average days the auto unit wins in my book
try using a tint on the vfd display. they do this a lot to change the color of dot-matrix and character lcd displays. you wont get pure blue, but closer too it.
Thanks for the replies! Maybe i'll just hang on to my automatic unit...don't want to mess with different wires/connectors. I was hoping for a simple switcharoo.
