I have no idea what went wrong, but when I turned the ignition switch, all the 'pre-stuff' came on but the ignition would not turn over....nada. It was not the battery. All the electrical stuff worked fine.
I pulled the key out and tried again...again...nothing.
After banging my head against the steering wheel, I tried yet one more time and then I heard the "click" of the key going into the ignition and when I turned it.....vrooom.
WTF happened with this? Any thoughts? I'm really creeped out by thinking this might happen again...though I have started the car maybe another 10 times since this incident without any problems.
mine will act like that if I do not have the clutch pedal all the way down - is yours a 6 speed and if so, is it possible you may not have had the clutch pedal all the way down? Did you go through the DIC to see if any trouble codes were stored in memory?
ptdrummer...I have an Automatic. No...I didn't go through the DIC codes. I was just freakin' happy when the thing finally cranked up since I was sitting in the parking lot of the supermarket with about $100 worth of groceries in the back...some of which were frozen and/or in need of immediate refrigeration.
Is it possible that one can turn the ignition too "soon" ...if you know what I mean? All the 'checks' are going and the memory stuff, and somehow you interrupt that stuff. Then when you pull the key out and wait....it resets itself? That's the only thing I can think of, and I hope that's what it is. That I turned the ignition key "too soon" and messed up some sort of checks and balances.

this is often known as the "Delorian effect" from Back 2 the Future
