Hi -
I may open a can of worms, but I am about to need a new clutch. Any recommendations? (Brand, procedure, etc.?) I was told that a Z06 clutch would be a good replacement for my slightly mod'd 99 C5.
I am considering doing the job myself, because I can't find anyone to do it turn key for under $1800.00. So... Just curious as to how big a job this is.
I've helped out on clutch swaps before and it's quite a chore. You'll need to remove the entire drivetrain and rear suspension/crossmember. Below are a couple of websites I put my pics on. The first shows the drivetrain removal while the second has a few pics of when we swapped in a Z06 clutch into my buddy's '01.
i did everything myself in a garage on jack stands. Its not hard really. The hardest part is just getting the torque tube/trans lined up w/ the clutch splines. Other then that its just R&R.
I'm a Master/Journeyman Auto Tech. I wrench all day and am paid very well. The last thing I want to do on my time off is put a clutch in my C5.I could do it,but choose not to.For $350 or even $500 it's a deal. Also, one small problem and ooops..do it again.Too labor intensive. But then again maybe I'm getting too old for it! GO FOR IT!! Good luck and have fun. P.S.Remember what Clint says..A man's gotta know his limitations.
