Hey all, I'm sure this has been addressed before but the search engine on this site isn't the best so I apologize ahead of time...I have an 01 M6 coupe with 4.10's, blackwing, stainless works long tube headers (stock cats), kirban short throw shifter, and borla stinger catback...I recently moved the car to Colorado from Houston, and definitely feel the need to do another performance mod to help compensate for the loss of power at altitude...I'm leery of a cam swap since this is my long distance daily driver and needs to be completely reliable, so I've been considering swapping out my stock LS1 heads for those off an LS6...I'm thinking I could get some used on the forum for around 800 bucks, have a solid porting job done on them and end up giving myself a nice 15-20 rwhp gain while not altering the drivability a single bit...What do you guys think of this plan?? Am I way off base here?? Any help is appreciated!!
Yes I run 4.10's daily, it's not a big deal at all...they actually improved my gas mileage since I can easily just go 1-4-6 (6th is a useful gear) and not get any bog...

too bad you're not running an '02 motors .. otherwise a ls6 cam & heads would give you a z06 engine.
if it's a daily, be careful of the size of the cam, the bigger the worse it'll be on the engine. Figure a good 224/226 would work but guarantee once you open that sucker up and drop the cam you'll be looking for more power and be doing it over with a larger cam .. but like i said be careful as you can over do it, the six bolt mains are strong but you can still do them harm.
I'm sure somebody else will pipe up with some more useful information. specs and such.
I'd toss in at least an LS6 cam. Or something like the lingenfelter GT2-3. They are both SMALL cams, but will give you a significant gain over the stocker. You wont gain much without swapping in another cam.
You will lose NO drivability with either one of these.. It will run exactly like stock but with a lil extra kick...
