Default dyno day

I had a great time at the dyno yesterday. Fist time I had the hardtop out since the 427 had more than 1,000 miles on it. (Just turned 1000 miles on Wed.!). Decided it was time for some real world hp numbers on the dyno. I was really hoping for some big numbers with the 427 stroker and fast intake. I know seat of the pants the car has been running awesome. Alsomst makes the 10 plus months of no vette seem worth it.

Anyway, I was at the local speed shop that has a dyno, knowing my luck it was mustang day...

There I was the lone chevy in a world of blue ovals. I knew the hardtop had the goods to do us proud. Fist run on the dyno she made 498 hp and 410 tourqe to the wheels. Not too bad, but she was running really rich. I pulled her off the dyno and into the corner of the shop and fiddled with the timing and a few other settings with the laptop . While I was messing with my car a convertible 04 Cobra pulled in, making a lot of noise.

Everyone in the shop gathered around that car like it was a Ferrari. So I stoped and walked over to see what was up. It had a black Kenne Bell blower on top, and a claimed 16 lbs of boost. My jaw almost hit the flow when that thing really fired up. It made 609 hp to the wheels! I don't know what the tourqe numbers were. I thought those were some pretty damn impressive numbers considering the thing was only a 4.6 liter 281 cubic inch deal.

I got my car back on the dyno, but I knew there was not going to be another 100 hp in my tune. I did make 507 to the wheels my second run, backed up by 505 on my third run (no cool down time).

After all was said and done everyone started talking about doing some highway pulls. I knew the cobra had 100 hp on me, but it was a 'vert, and must weigh 500 lbs more than my hardtop. Plus I had to spend the whole day listing to those mustang 'boys' talking blue oval trash. I said the highway pulls were a go.

We did our first (and only) run from 35 mph. I got a little jump on him when we hit it. I pulled over half a car. I hit third and he started creeping back on me. I hit fourth and he had me by about two thrids of a car. Then things evened out. Form 120 to 155 we were dead even, he still had 1/2 a car on me. I was just about to shut it down when I finally started creeping back on him as I hit 160. At 165, I had just barely pulled ahead, and I shut it down.

I did manage to win, but damn, I got a 427, and that Cobra only has a 281. Glad I did not run into that guy when I only had exhaust and gears....

After the race he said he was going to swap out his pulley for 20lbs of boost. Told me to look for him next weekend. Man....First of all its plain stupid going over 120 mph....2nd of all if he really does get a pulley I don't feel like looking a mustang's tail lights. I'm thinking about a NX nitrous system Going to overnight it and try to get it in the car by Friday. What would you guys do? Maybe I should just let this one go....

I'd let it go, it's not worth it. Oh, and IB4TL

That's the tale, there is always someone faster. Enjoy your 427 dude! I'm envious and wish I had it!
