It was a great day in Central Jersey today, so it was a no brainer about taking my Vette up to Starbucks for my morning coffee. Decided to take to the streets instead of paying the .70 on the Parkway. As I was stopped at a red light, one of those 1960 something Shelby Cobra things pulled up next to me. Since I'm a true car guy, I gave him the thumbs up and a nod. This old Fart in the Shelby gave me this crazy look and roared his engine at me. Boy those things sure make alot of noise. Looked like he wanted a piece of my puny C5. I just couldn't believe an old geezer would try something like that in a priceless car, I'm assuming it was the real thing. Well, I'm not a big fan of street racing so I let the "Ole Man" do his thing. Even though it might have been a good time to test out my new Toyos. He took off like a rocket, must have been all that Geritol and Viagra. I guess common sense doesn't improve with age. It was cool to see that Cobra though. Bye the way, I ended up at IHOP.
you never know the old street racers never die, the guy may have started out in an 34 ford rod in his youth. an still have n his fun... least u could do is gas it for a short peice. an let him smoke u. most of those are 427 two fours an haul butt. hed have a big smile leaving you behind an any time you can make someone smile youve done a good deed

When LEO's witness vehicles "comparing speeds" (street racing), don't they usually pull over the car behind for the citation if they can't catch both?
I'm not sure it would be worth the smile. I hear that's a pretty nasty ticket.
With the "real thing" now selling for over $100,000 I'd be surprised if that's what it was!
However, there are tons of kits out there - and they can be as good, if not even better in performance, though!
Ken Miles DID set a rather neat record in the late 60's in a 427 Cobra:
Zero to 100 to zero in 10 seconds!
dont sweat it, while in respect i wouldnt mind getting spanked by the power that is Cobra ... smile in the knowledge that your unwillingness to engage him probably bothered him all the way home
Especially if it was a big block . Caroll Shelby said himself that there were so few big blocks that he built he can not understand how there are so many "originals" out there

Speaking of Fords, on the way home from the AutoX today, my son and I see a pristine 1965 Mustang Fastback GT. We had to drive far faster than we wanted to in order to catch up to it. It was as impressive up close as it was from a distance. The kicker was it was being driven by a lady who had the look and attitude of someone being forced to drive an old junker.

I'm not sure I believe this. Do you have a reference?
In August of 2003, Road & Track did a 0-100-0 test on the Ferrari Enzo and it clocked in at 11.7 seconds. They compared this to the 11.5 seconds that was clocked by a Kawasaki ZX-9R and a bunch of other supercars (i.e. Lamborghini, Porsche, etc.) that were all in the 13 second regime. No mention was made of the 427 Cobra and the 10 second record. See (http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....page_number=12) for more details.
Personally, I have a hard time believing that a 427 Cobra could outperform an Enzo by nearly 1.7 seconds. However, if the data is out there, I sure would like to see it.

You're right, it was supposed to be capable of under 13 seconds. Motor Trend was only able to reach 14.14 seconds with a replica. The current world record holder is the Ultima GTR with 9.8 seconds.

Good thinking for not being drawn into a street race. You've got nothing to prove to anyone. There are several Cobra kit cars around here and they are nice to look at.
