What year is your car? Only '01s and early '02s came with wheel locks. From then on they supplied a small plastic case with fix-a -flat in it.
Oh sorry. I have an 02. It does have the fix-a-flat kit (pump and sealer). I thought all Z06s had the flat repair since they don't have EMTs.
It does have the locking lug nuts. I pulled the plastic caps off and checked. Problem is I can't figure out where the lock is to remove them. Like I posted above. I don't know where they mean in the trunk.
if you are referring to the single lug nut on each wheel that requires a "key" to be removed, my key was in my glove box of my '03 when i bought it. as far as i can tell, there is no special place for it to be stored in the car, in fact mine usually stays in the bottom drawer of my tool cart.
Yes the lock/socket for taking the locking lug nuts off the car. I need to remove the wheels and can't find the damn lock/socket anywhere. So when I found in the manual it said this little hiding place in the trunk. Well if it is in there it is hid quite well. Not in the glove box. I wish they would have just put it in the owners manual jacket like they did on the C4.
mine was sitting in the rt compartment with the tire kits.
there are indentations under the carpet between the compartments near the backpanel.
Thanks for the reminder.
when I purchased the car in the fall
I was going to remove the locking nuts and then
forgot about them. time to pickup 4 lugnuts
I can only speak about my 03 that came with out wheel locks. I immediately ordered a set from the dealer, who had them in stock and were a perfect match to the std. lug nuts. Of course they came with a socket or key that fit the locks. A perfect spot for the key is located in the rail that separates the left and center wells in the trunk area. The carpet can be lifted to reveal a recess in the rail that fits the key perfectly. This is where I store mine. Incidentally, this is the same setup, I believe, that is used for non Z06 C-5s.
What they are saying is that midyear 02 they stopped putting locking lugs on. You can add aftermarket, but they didn't come factory installed. As stated above the lug key was normally stowed in the trunk area under the carpet in the slot. Hope this helps....
ok, so basically you're telling me that i imagine that i use a key to get one lug nut per wheel off when i change wheels
ummm yeah
If you bought your 2003 Z06 new, then yes. If not then someone added them. Or unless your dealer added them. But GM stopped using wheel locks just as others have already stated, starting in mid year 2002's.

That is where I keep mine too, and that is the trunk rail that the owners manual talks about.
Thanks EHS, GRAYVETTE and QUICKSILVER. I found the location. The rail is the part that seperates the large hole from the 2 side bins. So I lifted the carpet on the left side. I can feel that depression they refer to. Only no lock is in it. I felt around under the carpet in the left bin and the center bin incase it just fell in there. No luck. On my C4 in the owners manual was a small slip of paper that had the magic number on it for your lock. Well that isn't in the manual either. The original owner never took the wheels off so he is going to call his local dealer. That is the only place the car was ever serviced.
So if some mechanic spaced it out and the lock is lost can I call my lcoal dealer, give him my VIN number and have them make one? Or take it down and have them remove them with some special "cheater" socket or something?
Use a socket - hammer it on the locking lug nut and remove. Use drift punch to pound lug nut out of socket & repeat for other wheels. If you want locks, go buy a set of Gorilla or McGuard chrome lug nut locks. Note that '04 Z06s have plain chrome acorn-type lug nuts instead of the cheap caps. Those & good locks are the ticket. Note, if you used a Craftsman socket, you can get it replaced free after you remove the 4 locking lugs :-)

Ya know I figured one of you boys would jump right on that and tell me to whack a socket on them and remove
Ok so NavyVet, nice idea about returning the socket. All my tools are Craftsman. Now since it sounds like you have already pulled this stunt
What size socket? 3/4 or some metric one slightly offset? I also have regular sockets and impact gun sockets? 6 point and 12 point?
It sounds like this may end up being the route I go. I have plenty of extra new lugs that I bought for my92 Vette since I was changing wheels all the time. So I'm not bothering with locking lug nuts once I get this mess cleaned up.
I just pulled the stock wheels on my 02 Z and replaced with chrome Z06 wheels last weekend. Mine was a late '02, and as stated above, did not have locks installed.
However, as to the correct socket to use, I found a 19MM deep well fit perfectly. Mine is a 6 pt. set. Lug nuts came off and torqued back on to 100 ft lbs with no apparent damage to those cheap plastic caps!
Well I checked the build date, it's 01/02 and arrived at the dealer first titled it 1/21/02. So I guess that is in the middle of the model year.
I took NavyVets idea of using a Craftsman socket a little further. Stopped by Sears tonight to look for some sockets for removing rounded nuts. Lo and behold in the automotive section they had this nice 3-pc flip-socket LUG-OUT set. Removes worn lug nuts (with 6-fluted socket) and on the other side removes wheel locks (with 12-fluted socket). Sockets are 17mm, 3/4in-19mm, and 7/8in and they are impact grade. Sounds like the remedy for me to do away with the locks and not have to whack sockets onto them.
