Default Floor Jack For A Z06

Ok I feel dumb for asking but what kind of floor jacks are you using to jack up your car? I just got my Z06 and the jack I have wont even go under the car. On my SS it will go anywhere. I dont have the space or funds (right now) so a lift is out of the question. I was even thinking about lowering the car. Do rino ramps work? Who makes a low profile jack?

I did a search and didnt find what I was looking for.

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure craftsman has one of those aluminum low profile floor jacks that reaches full extension in like seven pumps. Just like those race jacks that you see for around $700 only craftsman's is a lot cheaper.

Here you go

Try taking a look at this one. I got one a couple of years ago, and it's still working fine. Looks to be the same as the Sears unit.

What is this "proper" way to jack up a Z06 like they say?

Looks like the only difference is an extra 1000 lb lift capacity on the sears unit. The two ton version at harbor freight is $10 more then the sears unit.

If you look under the rocker panels in front of your rear wheels and behinde your front wheels you'll see an oval slot in the frame. That is the correct jacking point. The pads that you see for jacking your corvette advertised fit in those slots and keep your jack from damaging the rocker panel.

I have one of these^^^. Got it on sale right after Christmas at a Harbor Freight store for $80. Works great with my jacking pucks.

Default I like the Sears Jack

Here my 2 cents worth. I got the Sears - 2 ton aluminum racing jack for about $180. It works great (low enough profile & light weight) and with the 2 ton capacity; No problems with other heavier vehicles. And no problems period.

A fellow corvette owner and good friend had brought the Harbor Freight jack - 1 1/2 ton capacity. He had to replace the first one because it broke/broke during a mod day! His second one isn't much better as far as lifting speed. (I think the 2nd one will follow suit like his 1st jack... )

Try going to a junk yard and get a scissor jack from an average car or truck to raise the car high enough to use the regular jack.

Hi 2MuchRiceMakesMeSick -

I use a standard floor jack like the one at Harbor Freight - just remove the round cup from the lifting arm and use the jacks lifting arm directly against the jacking puck - no problem.

If your car is lowered (as are both of mine) then you might have to gently lift up on the car to get the suspension to hold the car up a little higher while you put the jack under it.

best regards -

my car is lowered as far as i can on stock bolts
i have the harbor freight unit--they got the craftsman unit in my local sears a couple of weeks after i bought my "knock off"
the jack JUST fits under the rear, but the front has to be driven up on rhino ramps before i can fit a jack underneath
i dont like using the jack slots on the sides because of the way it twists the car around when i do. i'm sure the car endures more body stress under driving conditions, but i feel like im torturing the car if it torques because of jacking.

I bought the craftsman and use hockey pucks in place of the $80.00 alumiunum pucks. No problems so far. The Jack is a few extra dollars but worth it in my opinion.

I have three of those cheap $17 jacks with the small lift pads. Two fit in the front oval jacking points passenger and driver side and the third, I fit under the aluminum support structure for rear diff. I use a 20# weight from a barbell set to spread the wieght over the rear center point. Great for lifting the whole car in 5 mins, but I followup with safety stands. Obivously those cheap jacks are not realiable. Good enough for changing wheels, checking brakes.

Why don't you try driving up on a 2X10 to raise the car 1 5/8 inches, so all you pay for is the wood. You may even be able to find some wood from a friend or your local high school shop class' scrap bin.

I bought mine from Harbor Freight, seem to work ok, but it can't take that much abuse. My neighbor uses it more than me.

Default Floor Jack for A Z06

I have a Rotray lift in my garage. I use four 1 1/2 X 12 boards. I drive onto the boards. The lift arms will fit under the Z. This should also work with a floor jack.

I have the Craftsman. Watch for sales on them. I paid $99 for it at Christmas time. Course that was before the merger with KMart. I saw it in the store the other day for the $199 and couldn't believe it.

I have one of the lightweight aluminum racing jacks from HF. Had it over a year with no problems. I lift my 92 coupe all the time to swap wheels and brake pads out.

Just did my 1st oil change on the Z this weekend. It slid right under the front cowl after a little wiggling. Plopped a short peice of 2x4 on the jack pad between the frame and lifted it up. No problems.

But I can see already once I lower mine that it will need to be driven up on some peices of 2x10 just to get the jack under there.
