I will tell you this! There is no way I would ever put a Honda in my drive, no matter how nice it was! I would have bought an older vette for now, and probably would have sold it for what I paid! I would have went for a c3, or c4, or a higher mileage c5. I guess who writes the checks has the final say??? Bowtie all theway!!!!
If your in a position where your wife has to tell you when you should or shouldn't buy a car I'd take a good look at my whole situation. I'll tell you one thing though, I would't trade my Vette for a HONDA!!!
I've been thinking, and I'm sorry for what I said in the above. If you and your wife are building a future, and making plans, than you MUST agree about financial things, and work together if you share the same goals.
You work in a bank, I go to work in a hard-hat. In my house it's like there's a race to see which one of us can spend what extra money we have before the other one can get thier hands on it!!!
You are more than likely doing the right thing listening to your wife!!
I'd say you probably made the right decision for this point in your life. Get the finances back in order, then go for your C6. You'll be much happier than if you strain your finances too much.
I hate to say this but I think you made the right choice (granted you can get used vettes less than $350/mth). You might have already answered you own questions. Since you work at a bank you already know you options. With the houseing market in a boom right now and interest rates somewhat leveling out - I would look into a 100% refi next spring (theres your wifes 12 month window) to by the Vette and payoff any remaining balance on the credit cards. Not only do you own the Vette free and clear, your payments won't go up all that much PLUS its tax deductiable at the same time!
If you bank doesn't do 100% LTV refi - shoot me a PM and I'll give the name of a few friends that I know out of state that does.
She had planned from day 1 to cosign, but at the last minute when i had the deal worked out, she said she was not comfortable having a 2nd car in her name now that the house would be on her credit as well!!! She basically left me high and dry.....
I think this is the real problem you're having. There was no reason your wife shouldn't have discussed her misgivings and decision with you from the moment she started having second thoughts. There's no excuse for her allowing you to continue to plan, and get your hopes up, then shoot you down. Discuss it with her and let know how it affected you. That's no way to do business.
Now on the other hand, if it was a power play, (subliminal, I'll show you who's boss move) you've got some serious thinking to do. I hope that's not the case.
It's too late now, but a new Civic would probably not have been my choice. I would have gone to Carmax, they'd have been glad to get the Vette, and $350 mo. would have gone a long way, with a little style to boot! The Civic will hold it's trade-in value so you did what's right for you. Looking foward to your '06 shopping stories.
