I have 3 cars and 2 m/c's. They all use premium! It was 2.75 per gal. Saturday at COSTCO.
But I don't care because I invested in oil stock (BPT) many months ago. A Royalty Trust to be precise. Besides the stock appreciating 100% since I first bought in, its quarterly dividends are subsidizing my gas purchases. I'm probably paying about $1 or so a gallon right now when I subtract the dividends I receive from my overall expenses for gas.
The more oil goes up, the more valuable those dividends become. And if crude goes down some or OPEC increases production, it really won't affect the dividends for quite awhile I'd say.
I've always tried to invest in dividend paying companies that I frequent a lot. That way my purchases are always a little less, net, and at the same time you are a part owner in that company.
Well, first, they've said it all..... 2nd..... if I had to worry about the price of gas.... I wouldn't have bought a new Vette...You can't pay, you cant'pay
I'm thinking the high prices will lighten the traffic. Maybe more people will use mass transit or car pool. Anyways, my $700 car payments are over. I'll use it for gas.
My daily driver is a Tahoe that get's 14-15mpg. I'm driving the vert more than I really want to (miles) but it's my econo-car now. Never thought that would be the case. Trying to talk the wife into getting herself a mid-size SUV and I'll get rid of the Tahoe for a hydbrid Accord.
When I used to own a boat people would ask me if it was expensive to fill up with gas all the time. I'd say sure it's expensive, but if I'm out there burning gas, I'm having fun. Now with a family and small kids, my Vette is my only "toy". Whatever gasoline costs, I'll be happy as long as I'm burning some of it through an LS1.
Negatory on the change. I can't do anything about the price of gas, so I'll just "suck it up" and drive my Vette when the spirit moves me. DaBoz...what's up with that nose thing on the babe in your avatar? Must be unique to my favorite city...San Diego. Dan
Thanks to the excellent gas mileage on the C5, it's actually cheaper to drive the Vette. Once upon a time, a C3 I drove averaged about 8 mpg. Paid about 35 cents per gallon at the time. (Did'nt leave much to spend on 8 Track tapes )
Last Sunday, we drove all over Long Island, along with the northeast forum crew, a huge group of vipers, Porsches, and other exotics. This Sunday, we're going for a long cruise upstate for most of the day. Gas prices sure aren't stopping us from having fun. Of course, most of the forum members I get together with locally don't use their vettes as daily drivers. As a cruiser, its not a problem owning a vette with today's gas prices. Now, if you use it as a daily driver with stop and go traffic, then you're gonna feel the pinch.
Don't like the high prices, but it is not going to keep me from driving the Vette as much as I want too, especially with the good weather being more frequent now that spring is here finally. On the serious note though I would like to see more refinary's (spelling) built to help with the supply & demand, and oil exploration in areas we have access to now, but then that would **** off the wacko enviromentalists out there.
Somewhat. I make less trips to the grocery store. I still dont know why the hell these prices are climbing. None seems to have a good answer for it. But its fukin ridiuous. I'm glad I only live 6 miles from work.
The Vette IS the economy car in my garage. It costs about $5.00 a week less to run than my Silverado, fulltime vs fulltime.
Driving the Vettes more than the Explorer, but it's almost a wash cost-wise:
Vette = 21mi./gal. on $2.47/gal. premium
Explorer = 15mi./gal. on $2.23/gal. regular
Not at all! It always kills me how people are so conservative on gas prices. I mean really think about it for a second. Most people who drive out of there way to save 10 cent a gallon and pat them selves on the back and tell all there friends about it are the same people who waste money by eating out all the time, smoking, drugs, poor buisness decisions, credit cards and so on. Do you see where I'm coming here. I make up for gas prices by spending my money smart else were so I don't care what they go up to.
I find myself driving the C5 more to work then my 05 F-150 Lariat with a 5.4L V8! That thing gets terrible gas mileage! on average- highway driving...I manage 18.5 in the truck...the vette gets in the very high 20's (its an automatic) the truck costs $55 to fill with regular unleaded...the vette costs about $40 to fill with the good stuff...Florida prices...I drive roughly 20 miles to work one way...and can get maybe 5 days out of the truck (if I am lucky) where the C5 gets me a solid 7 (+) days before empty...so there you go...God and Gas prices want me to drive the Vette!
Just returned from trip to Bowling Green, I live in the Dallas area.
Was not concerned about Gas prices, enjoyed trip too much to let gas prices spoil it, I drove 75+ and averaged 28.6 mpg. Museum was great. assemply plant was cool. But the drive was fantastic. also got a wave from 90% of the time.
