I'm going to look at a '98 tomorrow that has GY runflats on the front and has newer GY tires out back that aren't runflats...Is this a problem? Outside of getting a flat without a spare of course
Its only a problem in that with any sports car, the handling is very, very important. Mixing tire treads will drop the characteristics of the car. You will find some people like the GY RF's some don't but nobody mixes tires. Use it as a dealing point and get the priced reduced, then go out and replace the tires. A set of 4 GY RF's will be near $1200. Any non-RF will be a bit cheaper.

Thanks!
The rears seem to wear out faster on these and they took the cheap route rather than purchase same as front. What else did they take the cheap way out? The runflats will have a bit stiffer sidewall than non runflat, it probably won't be noticable. Good luck.
Bought my 98' back in October of 2004. Had the original runflats on the front and new ones on the back. The fronts only lasted another 8 months so you'll probably need new fronts soon enough. Try to negotiate new tires for the front into the price.
Incidentally, I just bought Kumhos for the front of my car.. there is no need to replace the rears because they are brand new but I wanted to get away from the runflats so as soon as I wear out the rears they will match the fronts. I see no problem with having them mismatched.
Thanks for the replys!! I will defineately use that as a negotiating point if I like the car. Thanks again!!
It sounds like the guy cheaped out. I'm running an ad for my C5 right now, awaiting my C6, and two weeks ago I bought two new rear Run Flats, out of respect for the car and the new owner. I'd be wondering when the guy changed the oil last, too...
It will never cease to amaze me that someone would put mismatch tires on a Corvette. The tires are a very important component of how the car handles. If he didn't put on two more run flats why would you think that he had repairs or maintenance done correctly?
