Just got back from a 500 mile trip and this morning I have the dreaded oil from the rear end on the garage floor. It was not a noticable amount but I guess it has been doing this for a while. Does anyone have any idea how long I can go with this untill it breaks something. Short of the regular, and not normal, noises I am not having any problems. I just hate going to the dealer if I do not have to. Please give me some feedback. Also my ventilation fan is really loud as I increase the speed, should I worry. I just hit 30,000 miles and am totally sick of all the little stuff This thing needs.
Is it leaking on the left side of the housing? If so, it could be the left seal leaking. This is a common problem seen here on the forum many times.
GM has revised the faulty seal and supposedly will eliminate this problem. Unfortunately, it's not a recall item so they won't front the expense.
My left seal has been replaced 3 times under warranty. Car has 24k miles. I have the cleanest rear diff fluid around. It's not a big deal for the dealer to fix, if its under warranty.
Each time the cure was different. First a different oring ( hi temo silicone) Second was the new oring with sealant. Third was oring ,sealant and different tightening pattern ( plus a prayer).
The aluminum design just can't take the torque in my opinion. Luckily I have an extended warranty.
