I used velcro to hold my front plate cover on. (That way I can take it off if necessary, b/c the plate is underneath it.) In 3 years, the velcro hasn't failed me yet.

Yes, you could use velcro to install the plate. I chose to go with the supplied double sided tape since I didn't feel I would have to worry about cleaning under the plate once it was stuck on. If anyone wants to look under the plate for dirt, let them try and get that thing loose.
