Over the years of the Corvette Forum, I wonder what the total number of responses to the numerous A4 vs MN6 threads is...

Hopefully, GM will address our issues and make a Z06 with a removable top. Then I'd have mine ordered allready. I have an a4 coupe and love it. My buddy just got a T/A WS6 6speed, and now thats what I want except for the T/A part. For a daily driver, I'd go with an auto. GOOD LUCK

First Corvette was AUTO only. Not until '55 was MN added. Not a sports car?

Sully,

The thing that cracks me up the most when this same old topic comes up again and again - is just how venomous the MN6/MN12 crowd (the majority) is towards the slush box crowd (myself).

I find it very ironic that it is not enough to just state facts about their particular choice of torque multiplier - but they always have to make sure that the grind any A4 owners beneath their iron heel.

That I find very sad.

Sorry to disagree with those of you who say a 6-sp is bad in traffic. I had a 97 Z-28 6-sp with 86K on it when I sold it and ordered my 2003 6-sp Vette. Both cars being daily drivers in city traffic. New clutchs are so easy and soft only a wimp would complain about shifting in traffic. My 68 Camaro show car (I am the only owner of it) has a very heavy clutch in it. I went out to a cruise Sat nite and now that clutch will flat out wear you out. To me in my 61 year old opinion a sports car with and automatic is just not logical. Family cars and automatics go together, sports cars and 6-sps go together.

I've always driven a stick for 30+ years, but enjoy the auto in the daily traffic i drive in-- with the torque of this engine, it's still a hoot, & when you romp on it, she scoots! I have been surprised that I enjoy the auto as much as I do, but it sure makes the stereo, cell phone, etc. more enjoyable as you're in stop & go traffic. I actually average 33mph for about a 27 mile drive, so that says it all. As others have said, if it's a daily driver in traffico, i'd go auto again. You'll miss a stick 20% of the time during the week, & more like 80% weekends, but with the MN6 it may be the reverse, depending on what you like. The clutch in the C6 feels lighter than the C5, too, tho, so you may want to ck that out. Fun either way!

Plus you never, ever have to change your clutch.

If you like constantly work a clutch, get a manual. If you like to shift, get an A4.

Hi clk199 -

I prefer the 6 speed. It feels more responsive and 'nimble'.

The auto is sluggish by comparison (I have a 3.15 gear), but it is very nice to let the auto do the work sometimes.

The auto loses about 2mpg to the manual (even the way I drive... )

If I could have only one, it would be the manual.

best regards -

If you own a "real sports car" you will be racing it right? Going fast right? I mean, thats what it's made for. Besides most of the auto bashers would be seeing my A4's tail lights anyway.
This man's got it right!...and like someone said earlier, never miss a gear...and still have tons of fun, with blistering performance to boot! Nothing quite like having a pro power shifter riding with you 24/7!!!
No missed gears...no hitting the rev limiter...don't worry about valve float...shift the same way, flawlessly all the time for race winning consistancy!!!

Everyone keeps saying they want the 6 spd, so they can have fun? What's up with that??? You can have LOTS of fun passing up the sticks, while they're trying to find the right gear...missing a shift...hitting the rev limiter...floating those valves...while they're TRYING to have fun!!!
Do it right the first time...get a tricked, kick-azz A4, and leave your competition on the starting line, trying to find the right gear!!!

Don't fall for all the baloney from these A4 naysayers! You deserve the BEST!! You're gonna LOVE the blistering performance you're gonna get outta your new 4L65e power shifting bearcat!!!

I wanna thank all you *sticks* out there for showing us forum members you can take it, as well as you can dish it out!

I got an A4 because, the way I drive I need both hands on the wheel. After all 90% of the time my TC/AH is off!

And that is no BS.

Im a noob, just celebrated my one week anniversary with my newly purchased '97 A4. Its got the 2.73 gears to boot. So it seems like I have the most "Un-sporty" version of the C5 available according to Sport Car Manual purists.

Try telling that to my permanently grinning face every time I put my right foot down and spin the tires loose! She has so much power that I dont see how more power could even be delivered to the ground through the wheel slippage. She breaks loose pretty much everywhere on the lower end of the tachometer. Its the greatest sensation I have ever experienced. Ive always wanted a car that would go as fast as I wanted it to, and now I finally have it.

But having said that, I know I am still in my honeymoon stage and havent experienced a manual or a higher HP version with better gearing. I just cant imagine my joy would be amplified more than it already is. Im enjoying every minute of this auto!

I think we get spoiled eventually and are always trying to recreate that feeling of thrill we got when experiencing a large increase in car power. This car of mine is plenty fast enough to get me in a lot of trouble if I take the bait....Im just gona enjoy what it can do and worry about upgrading to more exotic realms of power delivery some time later down the road (if I get too used to this experience).

Plus I have to play in LA freeway traffic every day on my commute, so the easy drive is nice. I have that "Secret Power" just at the end of my right foot if I ever feel like flexing my vette's muscles. I really love shifting too, but the A4 is a great great sports car with plenty of fun for a speed lover like me.

To each his own, my friends!

Cheers!~~~JadeDragon

I (we) have one of each, and honestly, they're equally fun to drive. If/when the A5 or A6 arrives on the scene, the choice may become much more difficult. When shopping for the '04 I was so sure I wanted a 6-speed that I never even test drove an automatic. But the Wife's '99 A4 is a blast to stomp & steer!
