Well it totally happened today. Took the car out for a spin and forgot to latch the top. So I guess I'm an official member. Just curious after you guys get done flaming me about this, does anyone have one that they are looking to part with? As bad as this is, it is almost kinda funny. I guess it could have been much worse. Def need those remove be4 flight tags now.

B

*Update*
For all of you that were curious about the insurance end of it, my stupidity is actually covered. I have Allstate insurance and they have been very helpful in filing a claim for me. Under my comprehensive coverage I only have to pay a 100$ deductable, which isn't bad cosidering. Although I do have a question about something that I posted further down in this thread.

Has anyone bought a top from this seller? If so how was the shipping and quality of the top? Thanks,

B
BTW where can I get one of those tags for the top? "remove be4 flight" Thanks guys,

B

There shouldn't be any flaming, as it happens to waay to many of us. I'm a member of the club, and lucked out and found a nice glass top to replace my painted one!

Sorry about the misfortunes!

If you had a real FRC that wouldn't be a problem.

I didnt even realize that it was possible for the targa to blow away from the oncoming wind if it is unlatched. The thing weighs a good 20+ pounds. How fast were you going 150? Did it hit any other parts of the car when it flew off?

The airflow makes the top light ... all it needs is a little bump to lift the edge and the wind takes care of the rest ... I had a close call once.

Check the Used Parts Section. I got a glass top there for 550.00. It works perfectly.

Bummer Sorry it happened to you. This is still a club, despite it's popularity, that I hope to never join.

Somewhat better late than never...I just hope that I remember to put the tags on. Be really expensive if the hardtop goes airborne.

Had that happened to me...Still waiting for a new top from the dealer....2 weeks and counting! I claimed mine on insurance, the estimate for a new painted top with latches, which I plan on using this time, was $1683.00.

Sorry you joined that club. Check out the C5 Parts for Sale section - there are usually a number of tops for sale there. Or call Gene at the Karshop and see what he can do.

Thanks guys, after sleeping on it last night it's finally starting to set in as to what a costly mistake that I made. It didn't take much to send it flying, I was actually doing less than the posted speed limit on a local road. I guess it could have been worse. It could have slipped and not caught the air at all and slide right down the rest of the car At least summer is around the corner because I rarely drove her with the top on. Although unless I'm with the car I can't really leave her anywhere b/c the top doesn't latch up properly anymore.
