Default Traction Competition Mode

When autocrossing today, a friend of mine told me that I should be able to press on the traction control and that it should go into a competition mode. Is this an option just on some cars? We pushed it and didn't notice it doing anything.

Yes, it an option on some cars. What year is your car? Active handling is needed.

Depends on the year of car.
When autocrossing just turn it all off.

The Competitive Driving Mode is available only if your car is equiped with Active Handling. The Active Handling System, RPO JL4, debuted as an option on the 1998 Corvette and became standard equipment in model year 2001. Here are a few links that will tell you more about Active Handling along with the Competitive Driving Mode and how it works:

I have to hold mine down for about 8 seconds. But the early years also had to be stopped to do it. I think in 2002 they changed that so you can do while rolling.

My car is 1998. I don't think it has active handling. I think it is traction control only. I know that the active handling gives you a couple of settings and I always believed my traction control just goes on and off.

True, cars equipped with 1st Generation Active Handling have to be brought to a complete stop in order to enable the Competitive Mode. The 2nd Generation Active Handling was introduced in model year 2001 and with it the Competitive Mode can be enabled while the car is moving:

I believe you are SOL. Just turn it off anyway, it just gets in the way when you are trying to spin through the infield.

If your car is equipped with Active Handling, the words "Active Handling" will appear above your button and your cars RPO label will show J4L which is the RPO Code for Active Handling.

Good question, but I don't have an answer as to what it would take.
