Hi!
As I posted earlier in another "string" - I've had numerous problems with my car being vandalized and people trying to break into it. I refuse to let them keep me from driving it so I'm wondering what Alarm options I have. (too bad the blow-torch and electro-shock "alarms" are illegal )
The factory alarm doesn't have a shock sensor which allows people to mess with it as much as the want - as long as they don't open the doors. Does anybody know if I can have an aftermarket alarm installed on it without messing anything up - like the fuel pump shutoff? No remote start as I have a 6 spd.
I'd appreciate knowing if anyone is running an aftermarket alarm and which brand/model. Also, anything I should not get!

Get an Audiovox or DEI product and you will not be disappointed. If you have a vert or coupe and leave the top down or off, get a proximity sensor. Good luck with your choice. Just sit out side with a paintball g$n one night and do your own security!!!
Viper is a good system, but they have HUGE keyfobs. It's bigger than some communications pagers. Do you want that in your pocket???
I looked at those when I had my HD Truck.. Pocket - I doubt that would fit in my purse!
I don't leave the top down unless I'm there with it.. I had someone dump a coke (or similar) all over my car one day, fortunately the top was up. I'd hate to think of the mess it would have been had the top been down. (The worst part - I was at work when it happened.) I do have a 100 lb Rottweiler but I'm not sure the puddles of drool would be any easier to clean
You can always run a wire from anything that would come "on" with the ignition thru a toggle switch, then directly to the horn.
That means that you would have to flip your toggle OFF before you
turned the key, or the horn would blow constantly.
Also, a 99-cent kill switch can be wired thru your clutch safety switch.
I posted a "how to" in the FAQ section here a while back.
These are both good only if someone is trying to drive off with the car.
Since the C-5 already has an alarm, and the flashing red light on the radio, it doesn't seem that spending more money to prevent simple entry would be worthwhile.... If the stuff you already have didn't stop them from breaking in, why would anything else?
I know the alarm will go off if they open the door - I've set it off by accident a couple times :o The issue is it will only go off if the door is opened.
Someone either kicked or knee'd the driver's side mirror so hard that it popped the mirror and shaft assembly up out of the base and almost off the car - twice within a couple weeks. The way they are put together it took a lot of force to pop that thing out of the base. My boyfriend managed to fix it both times but if they do it again I'll have to replace the entire mirror assembly.
We have security that patrols the parking lot at work but unless there is something to catch their attention - they won't notice. I'm hoping that with an alarm with a shock sensor or a proximity alert they might get caught if it happens again. Same thing with the idiots that keep trying to use a slim-jim on the door.. maybe the noise will draw enough attention to encourage them to move on.
