How to test homelink

How to test homelink
I just bought a used homelink. BEFORE I take my Z06 visor apart to install it, I would like to be sure that it works properly. Does anyone know of a power source in the car that I can easily tap into with aligator clips to test it. I am afraid that I might tap into something with too much power and burn out the homelink ,or worse yet, short something in my Z06.

You have instructions!!! Are they on a website somewhere?Mine came with 2 black and 2 white wires which appear to be both ends of the same wire extending from a white plasic connector , thus they are common. I connected the white wire to +9v and the black to -9v, did the programming procedure and
VOILA - the door opened and closed. That was 6 months ago and the thing is still in my closet! I can't get the oval thingy with the buttons separated from the electronics box!Lemme know how you make out, or if I can be of further assistance.
