Default Convertible top issue C5

Hi all,

99 C5 owner.

My glass from the convertible top has seperated from the actual convertible top

Any ideas as to re-affix the glass?

I was givin the idea of 3M double sized tape (foam type), but will that repel water when it rains?

My son just had the same problem with his 2000 and had it repaired. They some how re-glued it. It has been about five months and seems to be holding fine. I'll have him drop you a line.

I had it happen a couple months ago too...some kind of glue was used to reattach it. This summer should be a test of that glue as I put the top up and down daily.

I actually did the foam 3m tape thing just now, but Id also glue it if I knew it wasnt water proof.

Is that tape waterproof?

I think the foam will act just like a sponge and soak up water until it is full, then drip, but I can't confirm that.

I used 3M Super 77 Spray adhesive which I put into a cup and then brushed on where it was needed on both the glass and the top's surfaces. It's been good as new since then.

first make sure you mix enough to do the job, I used a small ziplock bag and cut one corner off and squeezed it into the opening between the window and the top (my window didn't totally seperate from the top, just the right side), then I used a large towel on the inside to support the window, and another large towel with plastic under it to hold the outside lip of the cloth top onto the glass.

it looks perfect now.

My top has this rubber like surface on it, along the whole inside part. Will i need to remove it?

According to JB Weld:
Q: Is there anything that J-B Weld WON'T bond to?
A: J-B Weld will not adhere to, or bond well to:

Any flexible rubber surface
Leather
Vinyl
Canvass
Polypropylene plastic
Polyethylene plastic

It will still work ?
