99: Thanks for the advice. More questions...did you use just regular flat black enamel? Why would you do more coats? Is that to give it a more uniform black coverage? Do you think it would eventually get hard enough to crack?

So, you're suggesting like 5 or more coats?

BTW, when the air temp is 110 down here, I'm thinking my underhood temp sitting in traffic might be a bit more than 120!!

BTW, we really miss Wisconsin but only for about 2 months a year when its summer there and "hellish" here. I lived there for 6 years - grad school at Marquette and work. My wife is from Neenah. Great place....

I used an airbrush on mine. First time to use one.

IMH, the additional undercoating might give the liner a better base to apply the color coats. My biggest problem was that I couldn't get a finite line between colors and the definition was not as I would have liked it.
There would definitely be a point at which there could be too much paint applied, and I didn't want to get there for fear of cracking or looking caked.
It was all pretty much a trial and error process and before I started I also priced a new liner.... just in case.
