Default Cruising Auto Trans in Overdrive?

I'm just curious, when just cruising around in the city at low speeds, should I have my auto trans in 3 rather than overdrive? In other words, can it do any harm when driving at say 35 to 40 mph in overdrive?
Thanks

no, it works fine.

the ls1 pcm is pretty sofisticated and controls the transmission shifting very well.

I keep mine in 3rd if the traffic situation calls for it.

Here is what the OM has to say about it:

THIRD (3): This position is also used for normal driving.
However, it offers more power and lower fuel economy
than AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE (X).
Here are some times you might choose THIRD (3)
instead of AUTOMATIC OVERDRIVE (X):
• When driving on hilly, winding roads.
• When going down a steep hill.

The A4 has a D position??? I only use 2nd (up to 106) and 3rd (up until I run out of kahoonas)

Seriously, around town, as long as I do not come to a complete stop - I use 2nd only.

I love hearing the Stingers so much that I use 1st, 2nd and 3rd exclusively and only ever use Overdrive when Officer Friendly is around

Wow, I'm surprised that there are other people that use their shifter that much. It seems I'm always shifting... guess I should have bought a stick...lol

I find myself running around town in 3rd all the time. I love the sound of the stingers winding out...
Most impressive.

So for the 1/4 mile do you leave it in 3rd or overdrive?

It should not hurt it to keep the tranny in overdrive. You'll have a little more response in say 3rd though.

I keep mine in 3rd except when traveling on the Interstates and other limited-access highways at speed.

Hmmmm....Im used to wrestling my little solid axled pickup truck down the track (the lightning) with 515rwftlbs...so i dont think the vette will be as hard (at first) to keep it straight. Besides i like a challenge. When I test drove a 2000 vette I couldnt believe how quick it was stock. can you tell im excited to pick up my 01 vette tomorrow?
