Default jacking pucks question

i was under the impression that the jacking pucks, when installed under my 03 c5 would actualy go up into a "round cutout" under the car and then lock in. when i was looking under the car yesterday i noticed that there is no round cutout at all - there is only the rectangular slot for the puck to lock into. does anyone have a picture of their car with puck installed? i'm sure i've seen the pucks looking almost like they are inserted into a round cutout that is just a little bigger than the actual puck.

The holes for mine are oblong in shape. I've never left mine in while driving. I always take them out after I've worked on my car.

The rectangle opening under the car is the correct place! You're on the right track. Look at it this way, if the cut-out were round, then how would the pucks fit! Besides, there is only one place under the edge of the car that the pucks can fit. Trust me, I also drive an 03' and used the pucks last weekend to jack up my car for the "lowering" procedure. Worked just fine! Also used it on a Z06 the very same day.

You can make your jacking pucks out of hockey pucks and eye bolts for a couple of bucks. I've been using mine for years.

How do you orient the eye bolts? My corvette buddy down the street said to just use 2X4s. How important are these and what is the function of the eye bolts? Thanks.

I bought the BMW jacking pucks and leave them in. They fit tight and unless you bend down, you can't tell they are there.

Yes they are plastic but they do support the car without any damage to the car or the puck.

The pucks slide right into a slot on the vette, but i wouldnt recomend leaving them there while you drive, with some vibration im sure they will fall off.

Just about anything that will prevent direct metal contact with the rocker panel will work - even a piece of cardboard in a pinch - as long as you are lifting at the proper place on the frame.

The eyebolts just allow you to insert the puck into the hole in the frame, give a quarter-twist, and they will hang there until the jack/lift makes contact and pushes them up against the panel.

Here's my home-made set using wing-screws:

The holes in the frame are oblong. The 1" diameter eye on the bolt fits in lengthwise, then you give the puck a half turn and the eye will hold the puck in place for you while you position the hoist or jack.

Once you're done, give the puck a half turn again and off they come!!

I got pucks initially with my first vette. Then I purchased rocker rails from
Andy's. Not only do they protect the rocker panels, they also act as lift points!

Default BMW Jacking Plugs

Does anyone have a picture and number of the red BMW jacking pucks. I read a while ago that some insert the pucks and leave them in.

I've got the black plastic pucks from www.bavauto.com . You don't see them and I leave them snapped in place. I've seen pictures of the Elite pucks and they look beautiful. They are not to be left in place.
