I wouldn't get rid of it. I understand that you'll have to spend 540 bucks out of your pocket but I'm sure you'll spend much more trading in or selling it outright and then buying a BMW. (hell, your first 15K service for your BMW will be over that amount)
The point is, after you spend the 540 bucks, you should be done. You have a fresh motor, new clutch.... sounds like you're ready to go.
Spend the 540 and hope that you don't have any more problems. Sounds like you've gone through enough of the drivetrain to last you a while.
My wife's Honda CRV (2003) needs another clutch master cylinder...second one. Put our Acura 3.2 TL (2002) in the shop for scheduled maintenance today...got a call...needs a new tranny. The 2001 Vette is the only car we can count on.
I wish i could get a new clutch for 540. My dealer just quoted me 1700 for the clutch replacement. My 01 is at the dealer getting new rings as we speak. It has been 2 weeks already and they called me last week and said I would have it back eventually. I feel your pain but don't give up the vette.
Ok I have to vent again about the poor quality and "customer service of GM"
If you don know I have an 01 vert that has spen more time in the shop then on the street.
At 1000 miles it had new rings put in ar 9000 miles it need a new block and pistons boy was that a hassle with Gm and there service departments.
And a few 100 miles after Hogskins chevy pulled the engine and clutch I have a vibration in the clutch pedal. I had to argue with them to take the car apart to look at it even thought they did the work on it and now they "think" its the clutch but they wont cover it so if I have them change it it will be $ 540.00 out of my pocket.
I think that since they took it apart and there was no problem before and now there is it should be there problem.
Well I think that I am just going to get rid of my dream car I know it is sad but I cant take the agravtion any more.
Some one convince me not to trade it in on a BMW.
Wifes C5 = 2000 miles in a year 6 months in shop (broke down now, again)
My BMW 540i = 20,000 a year 150K on the clock, driven like a race car, and running strong. I'm quickly loosing faith in the C5 also......
First things first...stop going to Hoskins Chevrolet. Your in Woodale and Arlington Heights is close enough so take the car to Lattof and see Frank. Hes the only one there that works on vettes and unless business is slow thats all he works on. The guy is good and he will actually talk to yuo about the car and not treat you like some annoying customer.
Buy that BMW, let that precision engineering wash over you as you hum down the road...then when the repair bills start to "bleed" you, death from a thousand cuts, then even a "lemony" Vette will begin to look better!
