Default Wheel/Tire Size

I have a 97 coupe and I'm getting ready to order new chrome wheels. The problem is, I'm not sure if I should stick with my stock size (17x8.5, 18x9.5) or move up to the Z06 size (17x9.5, 18x10.5). I thought maybe the Z06 owners could make some recommendations on this.

Other than the styling changes, I would get Z06 sizes. The tires are more expensive but it may not a problem with you. Another idea is to go with 18" in the front, namely 18x9.5.

I don't know how comfortable you are with your car handling or what goal you are trying to achieve by considering different wheels and tires, but getting a combo that has less difference in width (front to rear) will dial out some of the understeer that's inherent in our cars.

I have a Z06 and currently I'm running same size all around for my street/race setups. The combo (315/30/18 Pirelli PZero Corsas mounted on four Z06 18x10.5 wheels) that I currently run may not be your cup of tea but it may give you ideas what maybe available for your 97.

The 18x9.5/18x10.5 combo will give you a better visual effect as the front wheels now have the same diameter as the front. Handling will also improve due to the stiffer front sidewall and overall wider tires. Probably the only drawback is the slight reduction in gas mileage as wider tires impose more friction and losses.

Post some more about what you are trying to do with the new wheels/tires other than styling. Maybe I can give you a bit more suggestions.

Thanks for the comments Wah. My main objective with the new wheels is simply to get a fresh look. Beyond that, I wouldn't mind getting a little better handling although I really don't do any extremely hard driving. Getting Z06 suspension parts would probably do more for me than larger wheels/tires. I was actually considering the new C6 size wheels which I believe are 18x8.5 and 19x10 but I'm not sure if these would work. So I'm back to the following choices:

17x8.5, 18x9.5

or

17.9.5, 18x10.5

It does seem like there are a lot more tire choices for the stanard C5 wheel.

If those two are your only choices, then I'd pick the Z06 combo.
